The Town of Bonnyville is seeking a team-oriented individual for the role of Public Works Operator I. This is a permanent full-time position reporting to the Operations Director or their designate. The incumbent is responsible for the routine maintenance and operation of municipal services primarily focusing on water and wastewater utilities while providing essential support to transportation and landfill operations as required.
Key Responsibilities:
Operates light-duty equipment (Roller packers bobcat line painter hotsy woodchipper light trucks) and heavy machinery ( backhoes wheel loaders gravel trucks).
Performs routine equipment maintenance including fueling oil changes greasing and washing.
Assists the Transportation Department and Landfill operations as directed.
Assists Utilities with routine maintenance such as hydrant flushing and Hydrovac work.
Supports community events by erecting decorations holiday lighting flags and banners.
Adheres to all safety procedures and maintains a working knowledge of the OHS Manual and safe work practices.
Actively participates in hazard identification and near miss reporting.
Completes and submits all required technical paperwork in a timely and organized manner.
Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education & Certification
Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.
Valid Class 3 Q drivers license with Air Brake endorsement (successful candidate must provide a drivers abstract).
Level 1 Water or Level 1 Wastewater certification (considered an asset).
Fall Arrest Flagging Load Securement First Aid certified or willing to obtain.
Skills & Experience
2 years experience operating heavy machinery (bobcat backhoe wheel loader etc.).
Strong communication skills including the ability to interpret and execute verbal and written instructions.
Proven ability to work effectively within a team environment.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
Physical Exertion
Ability to lift and carry weights between 15 kg and 25 kg.
Capacity for frequent stooping kneeling crouching and walking on uneven surfaces.
Working in confined spaces as well as at heights (training will be offered).
Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
Schedule Requirements
Must be available to work rotational standby shifts.
Must be willing and able to work overtime as required.
Commitment to pursuing further certification levels in utilities parks or roads.
