Job Summary
Job Description: Maintainer (Temporary)
Reports To: Facilities Director and Business Administrator
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities including:
- Electrical
- Plumbing
- Carpentry
- Painting
- Masonry
- HVAC
- Roofing
- Mechanical
- Sheet Metal Work
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and necessary
- Holds a valid CT Drivers License
- Sufficient strength stamina and ability to perform effectively the assigned duties and responsibilities outlined.

- Must be punctual and reliable
General Description: To provide assistance to the facilities department utilizing the above mentioned skills in carrying out maintenance within the school district
Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include but are not limited to major and minor repairs to building and grounds consisting of electrical plumbing carpentry painting masonry repair HVAC repairs roofing mechanical repairs sheet metal work glazing snow plowing grass cutting sewage system maintenance landscaping moving materials working with artificial platforms minor construction and renovation and any other related work directed by the facilities supervisor.
These are only examples of the types of tasks the maintainer may be expected to perform.

- While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects tools or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms above head and from the floor. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat stoop or kneel reach about the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb on to ladders and stepladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the next and waist more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds such as cleaning supplies pails salt bulk furniture and unloading trucks. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables bleachers scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to work using ladders scaffolding mechanical lifts and District vehicles. Ability to spend most of the work day standing lifting and walking. Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and move heavier materials using appropriate equipment. Required to properly use safety equipment to prevent injury to self or others
- Must be able to unload trucks move deliveries and distribute up to 100 pounds distribute freight and school materials
- Must be able to climb a step stool or ladder
Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be determined by the contract between the Norwich Board of Education and the Municipal Employees Union Independent.
