PRIMARY PURPOSE: Under general supervision of Director Transportation Department or his designee coordinates special education transportation programs in public school system to transport students with mental or physical disabilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
Possess or must obtain within 6 months of employment: CDL Class B License with passenger and air brake endorsement. TEA Bus Driver Certification.
Must be certified as paraprofessional by the State Board of Educator Certification.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions short correspondence and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers clients and other employees of the organization.
Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.
Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Experience:
One to three months related experience
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Assists in formulating policies and procedures for new or revised transportation programs or activities such as screening route placement behavior education and discipline management of special program students.
Evaluates special education transportation programs to ensure compliance with appropriate laws regulations and objectives for student transportation.
Coordinate driver training for special programs and schedule and route assignment.
Interprets laws rules and regulations to students parents and staff and attends ARDs as necessary.
Provides liaison between students home school campuses and transportation department.
Assists in preparation of budget to provide financial support for special programs and equipment.
Determines need for and researches orders and maintains special program equipment.
Maintains special student database.
Maintains training and reference resources.
Prepares reports for federal state and local regulatory agencies.
Other duties that may be assigned by Supervisor.
