Weekly Hours: 36 Hours
Schedule:
Night Shift 3x12 Hours
6:45 PM 6:45 AM
Duration: 13 Weeks (High possibility of extension or permanent placement)
Position Overview:
The RN Surgical Unit will provide high-quality nursing care within a Surgical Short Stay Unit (SSU) primarily caring for post-operative and orthopedic surgical patients. The role requires strong clinical judgment and the ability to manage patients recovering from joint hip neck and back surgeries in a fast-paced acute care environment.
Responsibilities:
Provide direct nursing care to surgical and post-operative patients
Perform comprehensive assessments and monitor recovery progress
Administer medications and treatments per physician orders
Monitor for post-surgical complications and changes in condition
Collaborate with surgeons and interdisciplinary healthcare teams
Maintain accurate patient documentation
Educate patients and families on post-operative care and recovery
Ensure compliance with safety and infection control standards
Deliver high-quality care with minimal supervision
Requirements:
Minimum 2 years of recent SSU surgical nursing experience required
Experience with orthopedic surgical cases required
Strong surgical and post-operative patient care skills required
Excellent clinical judgment and critical thinking required
Ability to work in a fast-paced acute care setting required
Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing required
BSN preferred
Active RN License required
BLS Certification required
ACLS Certification preferred
Orthopedic/surgical certifications preferred
