Cunico a BWXT company was founded in 1951 in Long Beach California and specializes in naval products for submarines aircraft carriers naval surface ships and LNG manifold/valve systems. This team manufactures Level 1 cold-formed and specialty fittings piping systems and valves to Military Spec for the U.S. Navy Electric Boat Newport News BAE Systems Navantia Ingalls and other companies in Europe.

Position Overview:

As our Shop Supervisor you will provide frontline leadership for a unionized production workforce in a highly regulated aerospace defense and heavy manufacturing environment. This role ensures safe compliant and efficient execution of daily manufacturing activities while coordinating closely with Engineering Quality Planning Scheduling and Supply Chain. The Shop Supervisor upholds strict configuration control supports mission critical production schedules and maintains a disciplined culture of safety quality and procedural adherence.

Your Day to Day as a Shop Supervisor:

Production Leadership & Execution

• Lead and supervise union shop personnel to meet production quality and delivery milestones for aerospace/defense programs and heavy industrial products.
• Assign and coordinate daily work according to production schedules job travelers and engineering directives.
• Ensure all work is performed in accordance with drawings specifications and traveler instructions.
• Partner with planning and scheduling to align labor availability equipment readiness and material flow to support program timelines.
• Support Engineering with manufacturability feedback process clarifications and implementation of approved engineering changes.

Safety Compliance & Regulatory Requirements

• Maintain full compliance with OSHA company EH&S programs and applicable industry/regulatory standards.
• Conduct daily safety walks and promote a disciplined safety culturezero tolerance for unsafe conditions or behaviors.
• Enforce strict adherence to prohibitive materials controls hazardous-material handling and facility safety protocols.
• Ensure accurate documentation traceability and record keeping for all production activities.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

• Work closely with Quality to address nonconformances support root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Maintain a culture of first pass yield precision workmanship and disciplined process adherence.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives including 5S Lean and productivity enhancements tailored to high precision manufacturing environments.
• Identify opportunities for process optimization equipment upgrades and improved production methods.

People Leadership & Workforce Management

• Provide daily direction coaching and performance support to union employees while following collective bargaining agreements.
• Foster clear communication alignment and accountability across all shifts and work centers.
• Address employee concerns proactively and escalate issues appropriately while maintaining positive labormanagement relations.
• Mentor employees to support skill development cross training and readiness for advanced or specialized work.

Required Qualifications:

• A minimum of a high school diploma/GED is required.
• Must have two (2) years of relevant supervisory experience in aerospace defense or heavy manufacturing.
• Must have a strong working knowledge of union environments.
• Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with Engineering Quality Planning and cross functional teams.
• Must have demonstrated commitment to safety compliance and high reliability manufacturing.
• Must be highly organized self-directed and capable of managing multiple priorities in a schedule driven environment.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

• Technical or vocational training is preferred.
• Experience leading union personnel is preferred.

Pay: $76000.00- $119000.00

The base salary range for this position in California (US-CA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $76000.00 and $119000.00 per year. However the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate such as job-related knowledge skills experience and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical retirement and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired the selected job candidate will be employed at-will unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment compensation or benefit program) at any time including for reasons related to individual performance company or individual department/team performance and other market factors.
