Position Overview
We are looking for a Pre-Construction Engineer who is equally comfortable with a blueprint and a spreadsheet. This is a hybrid role that blends Technical Design (Engineering) with Cost Analysis (Estimating).
You will be responsible for the "technical birth" of a projecttaking raw architectural plans and turning them into fully engineered cost-accurate bids. You wont just count devices; you will design the system architecture identify scope gaps and ensure that our solutions are both buildable and profitable.
Core Responsibilities
- System Design & Engineering: Develop comprehensive system architectures for structured cabling CCTV and Access Control. Create and review riser diagrams to ensure technical viability.
- Detailed Estimating: Perform digital take-offs using Bluebeam or similar tools. Build accurate Bills of Materials (BOM) and labor estimates for multi-million dollar scopes.
- Value Engineering (VE): Analyze specifications to identify cost-saving alternatives that maintain system integrity while increasing our competitive edge.
- Scope Gap Analysis: Review MEP and Architectural drawings to catch missing infrastructure (conduits power requirements rack space) before the bid is submitted.
- RFP & Bid Management: Lead the technical response for Requests for Proposals (RFPs) ensuring all technical narratives and compliance requirements are met.
- Trade Coordination: Interface with General Contractors (GCs) and Electrical Contractors during the pre-con phase to coordinate pathways and device placement.
- Project Handoff: Once a job is won provide a clean "engineering package" to the Project Management team to ensure a seamless transition from bid to build.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 35 years in the Low Voltage / Systems Integration industry specifically in a design or estimating capacity.
- Technical Proficiency: Expert-level mastery of Bluebeam Revu for take-offs and redlining.
- Strong understanding of AutoCAD (Revit experience is a major plus).
- Deep knowledge of low-voltage systems (Cat6 standards fiber optics IP-based security and MDF/IDF room design).
- Blueprint Literacy: Ability to read and interpret complex architectural electrical and structural plan sets.
- Analytical Mindset: Advanced Excel skills for building complex pricing models and labor calculators.
- Communication: Ability to explain technical engineering concepts to non-technical stakeholders (Developers/Owners).
