Job Summary
Reporting to the Labor Relations Executive the Labor Relations Representative is responsible for the compilation handling updating and tracking of all active disciplinary and medical removal matters with respect to represented operations maintenance clerical and police staff. Note #1 This is a long term contract position eligible for benefits. Note #2 This position requires a minimum of four days per week in office in Jersey City NJ. The selected candidate may be required to travel to other facilities as needed.
Specific responsibilities include but not limited to:
Keep a docket of disciplinary matters and grievances to which the Representative would investigate which may include on-site visits draft charges or responses attend hearings and resolve in accordance with contractual timeframes and departmental procedures.
Assist colleagues in disciplinary matters and grievances they are handling as assigned;
Prepare format and service of disciplinary charges as assigned;
Coordinate and schedule all disciplines and medical removal matters including dates for hearings hearing locations etc.;
Obtaining dates from and coordinating schedules with arbitrators impartial hearing officers and court reporters;
Process and track payment of all related invoices (such as grievances panel matters disciplines and investigations);
Generate monthly reports;
Maintain an electronic catalogue of disciplinary decisions by topic and summarizing and cataloging those and other discipline decisions by topic;
Assist in maintaining and updating tracking data related to active disciplinary matters;
Provide guidance to managers and supervisors on disciplinary and grievance procedures when assigned;
Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:
Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in human resources employee relations and/or labor relations matters or a minimum of 60 college credits from an accredited college or university in Business Administration Labor Relations or other related field.
Demonstrated experience drafting editing and review of specialized and technical documentation
Superior written and oral communication skills with the ability to talk in-person and on virtual calls and phone calls with confidence in the Representatives work product.

Demonstrated proficiency in the use of LawManager PLI LiveLink and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook Access Excel Word and PowerPoint).
In-depth knowledge of organizational structure policies and procedures.
Demonstrated understanding of the fundamentals of employment law and labor relations practices and human resources processes including the Labor Relations Instruction and Memoranda of Agreement.
Excellent written and oral communication skills (as well as the ability to present to a variety of audiences) including demonstrated experience establishing interacting and fostering working relationships with a multitude of constituents and
stakeholders executives and staff at all levels Labor Relations Department Management Team members attorneys and non-attorney staff judges and other court personnel law firms external agencies and other entities
Demonstrated flexibility and resourcefulness in analyzing and resolving a wide-range of matters that arise in the legal environment as well as the ability to exercise prudent judgment and discretion in handling highly confidential and sensitive information.
Demonstrated organizational project management and time-management expertise with ability to self-motivate take initiative and prioritize handle multiple assignments concurrently as well as working independently within tight deadlines.
Excellent analytical skills and demonstrated proficiency in effectively persuading influencing and negotiating with individuals at various levels internal and external to the organization to achieve desired outcomes
Experience reading interpreting and/or drafting contracts policies or similar documents; and an ability to analyze information from different sources to synthesize solutions/responses/conclusions to challenging questions or issues.
