QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certification requirement: LPN Medical Assistant or Certified Health Assistant
- Provides services under the school nurse
- Previous experience working with children or in a healthcare school childcare or related setting.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students families staff and healthcare providers.
- Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment during routine and emergency situations.
REPORTS TO:School Nurse and/or Building Principal
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Health Aide supports the School Nurse in providing a safe healthy and supportive school environment for students and staff. Under the direction and supervision of the School Nurse the Health Aide assists with routine health office operations student care health-related documentation communication and other duties consistent with the individuals training and school district procedures.
The Health Aide provides services under the School Nurse to promote student health safety attendance and readiness to learn. The Health Aide shall not independently perform duties that require the professional judgment assessment or licensure of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
RESPONSIBILITIES DEPENDING ON JOB ASSIGNMENT MAY INCLUDE:
- Assist the School Nurse with the daily operation of the school nursing office.
- Greet and assist students who report to the health office in a professional and supportive manner.
- Support the School Nurse in maintaining an organized clean and appropriately supplied health office.
- Assist with inventory and restocking of routine health office supplies.
- Maintain student privacy and confidentiality at all times.
- Provide basic first aid and routine care within the scope of training school district procedures and direction from the School Nurse.
- Assist the School Nurse with monitoring students who are ill injured or experiencing health-related concerns.
- Take and document routine measurements or observations as directed by the School Nurse and within the Health Aides training.
- Assist students with basic personal care needs when appropriate and assigned.
- Support students with health-related needs as directed by the School Nurse.
- Notify the School Nurse promptly of changes in a students condition concerns or unusual symptoms.
- Assist with student transitions to and from the health office as needed.
- Assist the School Nurse with medication-related procedures only as permitted by applicable law district policy student health plans and the Health Aides training.
- Never independently assess a students medical condition or make medical decisions outside the scope of the position.
- Follow established procedures for medication storage documentation and student safety.
- Assist with implementation of student-specific health plans under the direction of the School Nurse.
- Assist with maintaining accurate and confidential health office records.
- Document student visits and care provided as directed by the School Nurse.
- Assist with attendance-related health documentation and follow-up as assigned.
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality in accordance with applicable laws regulations and district policies.
- Communicate health-related observations and concerns to the School Nurse in a timely manner.
- Assist the School Nurse with communication to parents/guardians as directed.
- Work cooperatively with teachers administrators special education staff counselors and other school personnel to support student health needs.
- Assist in coordinating health-related information and services as directed by the School Nurse.
- Maintain professional boundaries when communicating with students families and staff.
- Assist School Nurse in emergency situations as directed

Work year hours salary and other conditions of employment shall be in accordance with the Non-Union Staff Personnel Policies
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the non-Union Staff Personnel Policies. Principal or designee will be the evaluator.
