Position Summary
The Data Engineer will support the design development and maintenance of data pipelines ETL/ELT workflows and database-driven solutions supporting scientific and engineering applications. This role will work closely with software developers scientists engineers and product stakeholders within a collaborative Agile environment.
Key Responsibilities
Participate in Agile development activities including sprint planning stand-ups and technical discussions
Design build troubleshoot and maintain ETL/ELT workflows and data pipelines
Develop and manage data orchestration workflows using Apache Airflow
Extract transform validate and load data across systems including PostgreSQL and Oracle databases
Write and optimize SQL queries scripts and transformation logic
Support database exploration and troubleshooting using tools such as DBeaver
Troubleshoot data quality issues pipeline failures schema inconsistencies and performance bottlenecks
Collaborate with developers scientists and engineers to support data-driven workflows and integrations
Support schema evolution migration planning and data consistency efforts
Document data workflows transformation rules dependencies and operational procedures
Contribute to improving data engineering standards monitoring testing and operational reliability
Evaluate and support adoption of emerging data technologies and analytics tools
QualificationsRequired:
Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Systems Data Engineering or related field
Associates degree may be considered with additional relevant experience
Minimum 2 years of experience in:
Data engineering
ETL/ELT development
Data pipeline support
Experience designing and troubleshooting ETL/ELT pipelines
Hands-on experience with Apache Airflow or similar workflow orchestration tools
Strong SQL development and optimization experience
Experience with relational databases including PostgreSQL and Oracle
Python scripting or programming experience preferred
Familiarity with data modeling schema design and performance tuning
Experience supporting production data systems and troubleshooting data quality issues
Familiarity with version control and collaborative development workflows
Preferred:
Experience supporting scientific research or engineering-focused environments
Familiarity with modern analytical/data tools such as DuckDB
Experience collaborating in Agile software development teams
Soft Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
High attention to detail and commitment to data quality
Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly across teams
Comfortable handling ambiguity and evolving requirements
Proactive mindset with focus on continuous improvement and operational stability

Occasional extended hours or weekend support may be needed during project milestones
