Job Summary
Position Summary
The Michener Institute seeks an innovative collaborative and service-oriented individual for the position of Associate Librarian. The successful candidate will perform a wide range of tasks as part of a small team. Reporting to the Manager Learning Resource Collaboratory (LRC) the Associate Librarian will work collaboratively to support the teaching and learning needs of students faculty and staff across the Institute in a hybrid environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver synchronous and asynchronous digital information literacy instruction to support finding managing using information and referencing - in person and online.
- Design and deliver AI literacy instruction in collaboration with UHN colleagues where appropriate as well developing and providing LRC resources on using AI tools for Michener students faculty and staff.
- Use expert knowledge of research methods systematic/scoping reviews and knowledge synthesis to support student and faculty research.
- Design and develop asynchronous learning objects such as videos and interactive tutorials.
- Work with faculty to ensure that the LRCs services and resources meet their teaching needs.
- Supervise LRC Student Assistants (Michener students who typically work in the LRC in the evenings and weekends).
- Work collaboratively with staff from across the Institute on projects related to artificial intelligence technology data /information / knowledge management instructional design user experience etc.
- Manage the LRC website.
- Manage the LRC-led student open access journal.
- Answer questions from students faculty and staff in person and online.
- Conduct environmental scans on topics related to education applied health sciences and academic libraries.
- Collaborate in the development of library policies procedures resources and services.
- Keep up to date on the latest developments in library sciences and in technology as they relate to higher education.
Qualifications :
- An ALA-accredited degree from a Masters level program in library and information sciences
- 2 - 5 years of experience as a professional librarian
- Experience with digital information literacy instruction reference services and referencing tools and collection development
- Advanced understanding of artificial intelligence Co-Pilot and other tools
- Advanced knowledge of research methods
- Knowledge of key health information resources
- Expert knowledge of the Springshare LibGuides content management system
- Knowledge of the PKP Open Journal System content publishing platform
- Innovative approach to problem solving
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral
- Experience with SharePoint and MSTeams
- Strong technology skills
- Strong service orientation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a health sciences library
- Experience serving students and faculty in an academic library
- Experience developing learning objects such as videos interactive tutorials and LibGuides
