Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time overseeing and evolving Ontarios electricity market engaging with government municipalities and Indigenous communities and planning for Ontarios future electricity needs. Our employees play a key role in driving grid innovation protecting the system from threats advancing the provinces energy conservation programs and forecasting and procuring the electricity resources well need in the decades to come.

This is a unionized position that falls within the Contracts and Compliance Division in the Legal Resources and Corporate Governance Business Unit.

• The Analyst Contracts is accountable to the Supervisor Contract Management in the Legal Resources and Corporate Governance (LRCG) division of the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO). The Analyst Contracts will primarily focus on contracts associated with renewable energy facilities (e.g. solar PV wind waterpower etc.) as well as providing administrative support for the management of large complex contracts.
• The Analyst Contracts will provide support in the administration of contract obligations including compliance monitoring reporting contract management database testing reporting as well as customer service. Additionally the Analyst Contracts will provide support to ensure that contract management requirements are fulfilled and that documents and processes are followed to provide the best possible value to the IESO Ontarios power system and Ontarios ratepayers and taxpayers.

What youll do

In this role youll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:

• Support and administer contract processes ensuring that all obligations are fulfilled in accordance with the contract requirements culminating in successful commercial operation of facilities and post-commercial operation compliance.
• Regularly use and maintain a contract database system to manage ongoing contractual matters and to ensure compliance.
• Support Senior Analysts with contract issues by meeting with IESO staff respective contract counterparties and when applicable external agencies/organizations (e.g. Local Distribution Companies etc.).
• Assist in the development of standard principles strategies and processes for existing contracts.
• Advise on systems and procedures and recommend changes to support the successful management of contracts.
• Assist with the development of standard documents/templates to be used by contract counterparties and make recommendations to improve internal processes and where absent develop the necessary tools.
• Support the development and testing of information systems associated with contracts and workflow processes.
• Reach out to contract counterparties to provide support in day-to-day contract administration tasks.
• Interface with others internally with the Legal Planning Conservation Resource Adequacy Corporate Services and other IESO Departments; externally with Local Distribution Companies and with respective contract counterparties.

In a typical day you will

• Assist with projects within Contract Management. This may include facilitating meetings with other IESO departments.
• Conduct research on topics and issues related to electricity supply resources and renewable energy generation.
• Other duties or responsibilities may be assigned.

Role Requirements

To succeed in this role youll need:

Education:

• The education required to complete the responsibilities associated with the position is typically obtained through 4 years of university training 2 years of work experience.
• Knowledge of Ontario electricity including the renewable energy sector and regulatory environment.
• Knowledge of the technical aspects of electricity generation including renewable forms of electricity generation (e.g. solar PV wind waterpower etc.).
• Knowledge of contract management and project management principles and practices.

Experience:

• Communication excellent oral and written skills are a must.
• Understanding of the various generation contracts and programs used by the IESO (such as the Feed-In Tariff program the Renewable Energy Standard Offer program etc.) including the rationale and importance for each as well as the various provisions in the contracts.
• Ability to work effectively within a group and must be able to effectively coordinate with IESO staff and external stakeholders.
• Project management and project scheduling experience with an emphasis on being a self-directed highly motivated individual.
• Demonstration of excellent analytical and problem-solving skills able to analyze data draw conclusions and develop practical recommendations.
• Demonstration of strong understanding of business principles and processes as they relate to power generation technology.
• Strong planning and coordinating skills to organize own priorities and workflow.
• Honed interpersonal skills comfortable presenting findings internally or externally.
• Must be analytical systems-oriented and driven to improve processes and take initiative to highlight opportunities.
