X-Ray Technologist (Registered)

Position Overview
The Registered Diagnostic Radiology Technologist RT(R) integrates scientific knowledge and technical skills with effective patient interaction to provide quality patient care and useful diagnostic information. The RT(R) provides direct and indirect patient care services that meet the needs of each patient. The decisions and actions with patients and families are determined in an ethical manner practicing compassion and respect for the inherent dignity worth and unique attributes of each person. The RT(R) effectively communicates with patients families visitors colleagues physicians leadership and volunteers. All areas of practice and care delivery are provided to achieve and maintain top quality results and outcomes for patient experience quality and patient safety.

The RT(R) follows and adheres to Appalachian Regional Healthcare System (ARHS) policies and procedures regulatory requirements and standards of behavior. The RT(R) works within the practice and scope of their credentials. The RT(R) demonstrates the ARHS mission vision and values in action and demonstrates ARHS culture in a way that reflects integrity compassion community inclusion and accountability.

This position may require cross-training in Computed Tomography (CT).

Compensation is commensurate upon education experience certification and internal equity. Hiring compensation range starts from $23.00 /hour.

• Compensation is commensurate upon education & experience range is $23.00 /hour or more (depending on education & experience). Benefits begin the first of the month following 60 days of employment from the new hire orientation date. This position is a non-exempt position.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality diagnostic imaging services to patients in accordance with physician orders.
• Utilize scientific knowledge and technical skills to capture accurate diagnostic images.
• Maintain effective communication with patients and families to ensure understanding of procedures.
• Adhere to all ARHS policies and safety standards ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with healthcare teams to support optimal patient outcomes.
• Participate in cross-training and continuous professional development.

Position Requirements

Minimum Education:

• Completion of an accredited radiology program.

Experience:

• Clinical radiographic and imaging experience from an AMA-accredited radiologic facility.

Required Registration/License/Certification:

• Certification as RT(R).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association is required at the time of hire.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public patients family staff and physicians.
• Acts within the chain of command using positive verbal and non-verbal communication.
• Competent in delivering safe and effective patient care within legal limits of license and certifications and hospital policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of the continuum of care provided in the patient care department.
• Ability to demonstrate exceptional customer service to patients family staff and physicians.

Physical Demands

• Continuous standing and walking for periods equal to or greater than 8 hours per shift.
• Speaking reading and writing for extended periods greater than 8 hours per day.
• Exposed to vibration and cramped spaces for more than 1 hour per day.
• Frequently mobilizes patients for more than 4 hours per day.
• Frequently lifts carries pushes and/or pulls more than 50 lbs per shift.
• Frequently bends squats kneels twists turns and reaches multiple times per hour.
• Frequent hand finger and wrist repetition with moderate dexterity.
• Frequently exposed to soft voices at distances greater than 3 feet away.
• Frequently engaged in close eye work.
• Frequently exposed to ionizing/non-ionizing radiation including x-ray and microwave exposure.

Working Conditions

• Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases.
• Exposed to hazards from electrical mechanical or power equipment.
• Exposed to hazards consistent with x-ray machine operations.
• Exposed to unpleasant elements such as accidents injuries slippery and uneven surfaces.
• Handles emergency or crisis situations.
• Subject to irregular hours including days evenings nights weekends and holidays.
• On-call duties may be required.
