About the Role

The WMS Software Engineer - IBM i / AS400 Specialist plays a critical role in designing developing and delivering high-quality software solutions that support McKessons Warehouse Management Systems across its Distribution Centers. This position focuses on the IBM i platform and requires hands-on expertise in RPGLE CLLE SQL and modern Integrated Language Environment development practices.

The role translates business and technical requirements into modular scalable solutions; supports platform reliability and interoperability; and drives disciplined engineering through automation testing Agile delivery and CI/CD practices. The engineer will collaborate with technical teams business partners and vendors to enhance warehouse operations and support Order-to-Cash processes.

What Youll Do

  • Research design develop test debug implement and manage solutions for Warehouse Management Systems supporting McKesson Distribution Centers.
  • Participate in implementation development enhancement and modification of software source code and scripts while staying current with new technologies methodologies and industry best practices.
  • Analyze requirements; create and automate tests; and verify and validate that system and software solutions meet specified business and technical requirements.
  • Monitor application performance identify errors perform root cause analysis and implement appropriate remediation.
  • Integrate solutions across applications and platforms while ensuring interoperability reliability and adherence to design principles.
  • Liaise with vendors and internal partners to resolve functionality or interoperability issues affecting new and existing applications.
  • Use DevOps and Agile processes to deliver functionality quickly and effectively while iterating through continued development.
  • Own development activities from technical planning through deployment and participate in technical design reviews and code reviews.
  • Apply automation CI/CD practices version control testing and disciplined release management to improve quality and delivery reliability.
  • Share best practices provide technical guidance and mentor or teach other team members as appropriate.
  • Contribute to technical roadmaps and strategic planning for technologies used across McKessons Distribution Centers.
  • Create and maintain clear technical documentation development standards and operational support materials.

Basic Requirements

  • 4 years of professional software development experience including exposure to enterprise scale systems.
  • Hands-on software development experience on the IBM i series (AS400) using RPGLE CLLE and SQL.
  • Ability to craft modern modular ILE programs using RPGLE SQL and CLLE.
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology Engineering or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to staying current with language enhancements and platform feature expansion on IBM i.
  • Strong knowledge of the Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC) Agile delivery methodologies and collaborative version-control workflows.
  • Experience developing testing troubleshooting and supporting mission-critical enterprise applications.
  • Applied understanding of software integration patterns service-to-service communication release management and environment promotion practices.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments and applying disciplined software development practices.
  • Strong analytical debugging root cause analysis and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Experience deploying solutions on IBM i using other programming languages such as Java Python or PHP.
  • Experience designing developing or consuming REST APIs.
  • Experience with Kafka or other message-based and event-driven systems.
  • Experience working with digital applications and technologies such as Python Java MongoDB or related platforms.
  • Knowledge of Warehouse Management and Order-to-Cash processes.
  • Experience with DevOps practices CI/CD pipelines test automation frameworks and monitoring automation.
  • Experience in distribution logistics supply chain warehouse operations or healthcare distribution environments.

Travel / Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Limited travel may be required based on business needs.
  • Hybrid or remote work arrangements may be available in accordance with company policy.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKessons pay philosophy and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations.
