WERG General Manager

Position Summary
Assignments are received from the stations Operations Manager who is an employee of Gannon University in the School of Communication and the Arts. Duties will encompass both administrative and technical skills. Career & Self-Development. The General Manager will utilize this position as a professional stepping-stone to gain employment in the diverse field of digital media. As such gaining fluency in all aspects of station operations (personnel legal budgeting tech equipment usage and maintenance) is an essential experiential component of the position. Leadership. The General Manager will be guiding several dozen students and must interact on an individual basis with each constituent. Media operations have a multitude of interacting components and students have diverse interests that must be discovered and developed. Communication. The General Manager is the visible face of the radio station so they function as a bridge: responsible for developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with students faculty staff and the administration. At 90.5 WERG in the Center for Communication and the Arts the General Managers standard duties include (but are not limited to): Maintaining regular office hours in CCA -201 on a weekly basis keeping in communication with student constituents at the radio station. Programming station logs with Selector software Ensuring new music promos PSAs and other audio elements are screened for airplay Recruiting students for airshifts and providing constructive feedback Administering the successful promotion and airing of the Sonic Sunrise morning show including booking guests Meeting with the Operations Manager at least once a week. Planning organizing and leading all weekly WERG staff Rundown Meetings (typically Tuesdays at 11am) for the purposes of strategic planning across all managerial platforms at 90.5 WERG (Programming News Production Promotions Social Media Underwriting Sports Staff Training and others as required). Grooming future replacements for the WERG management staff. Delegating duties downward as far as possible; filling-in when needed; offering advice and guidance to managers and staff. Training staff as to proper station procedures and operations (also EAS and FCC regulations). Mediating disputes. Keeping student offices and the air studio clean and orderly. Planning coordinating and appearing at university-wide promotional appearances (Open House student tours etc.). Being a visible active engaged student manager and representative of 90.5 WERG for faculty administration staff and students both current and prospective.

Required Qualifications
Basic computer literacy skills: knowledge of applications like Office Adobe Audition and Wide Orbit (training in these and other essential software applications necessary to run WERG is part of the process of participating in the learning laboratory that is the radio station) Superior collaborative abilities The ability to think critically taking theory from the classroom and synthesizing it into the experiential framework of a professional media operation Possession of a cellular phone Good academic standing A historical presence as part of the 90.5 WERG staff
