VIDEO SURVEILLANCE TECHNICIAN
DEFINITION
Under general supervision assists in developing and implementing a districtwide security program including surveillance and emergency radio systems. Position is responsible for installation maintenance and repair of hardware essential to the support of these programs and projects.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
A Video Surveillance Technician is responsible for developing and implementing a districtwide security program including surveillance and emergency radio systems. Position is responsible for installation maintenance and repair of hardware essential to the support of these programs and projects.
A Network Technician and Security Specialist participates in the planning and installation and ongoing maintenance of the districts wide area network and local area networks. This includes providing technical support for software and hardware associated with the networks ensuring the reliable interface among the districts local area networks access to mainframe systems and the worldwide web/Internet; and participating in the planning implementation and maintenance of network security and cybersecurity.
An Information Technology Support Technician is responsible for the installation maintenance and repair of computer hardware software and for both Intel-based and Macintosh-based installed includes knowledge of operating tools and advanced electronic hardware and software analysis equipment for diagnosing repairing and resolving hardware and software problems on individual workstations and peripheral equipment.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Direct supervision is provided by the Assistant Director Educational Technology and Information Services or Director Educational Technology and Information Services. General supervision may be provided by other assigned administrators.
No supervision is exercised over district personnel.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Assures the reliable and efficient operation of the districts security surveillance and emergency radio system; assists in the planning organizing controlling directing monitoring and maintenance of the districts technical-based security surveillance programs and emergency radio system; assists in the development and implementation of a districtwide security surveillance policy and emergency radio policy.
Uses safety equipment supplies and procedures to perform job duties as required.
Provides reports on activities as requested by an appropriate administrator.
Stores and shelves equipment and other supplies in conformance with various local state federal and district rules and regulations.
Maintains equipment in a safe operating condition; maintains preventive maintenance procedures records and reports.
Assists visitors and safeguards district property; adheres to all state and federal laws and regulations regarding safety and health.
Attends and participates in district and/or assigned training or information sessions; incorporates new information or technology into existing job duties. Shall carry a communication device if assigned one and be available for general duties.
Uses a computer for entry and retrieval of information for work assignments.
Communicates effectively orally in writing and electronically.
Operates equipment such as district vehicles electric carts etc.
As needed climbs an appropriate ladder to install inspect repair and troubleshoot equipment (e.g. IP cameras wireless access points servers etc.).
Estimates cost of jobs; specifies orders and procures supplies materials tools and equipment for the purpose of maintaining availability of required items and completing jobs efficiently; maintains inventory of supplies parts and equipment; confers with appropriate administrator regarding cost effective use of materials and supplies.
Transports various items (e.g. tools equipment and supplies) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at the job site.
Plans and coordinates emergency radio and security surveillance system installation with Facilities Planning and Maintenance Department Educational Technology and Information Services Department and outside vendors and contractors; serves as liaison for security system vendors and service contractors.
Assists in the design configuration installation maintenance security and management of all networked and telecommunication devices related to district security; diagnoses and resolves surveillance and emergency radio problems related to networking and telecommunications; troubleshoots connections and/or networks; isolates software problems from hardware problems; repair equipment or arrange for repair; drives to various sites to conduct work.
Guides end users on the proper use of the security camera client software and emergency radios.
Assists in the planning installation maintenance and troubleshooting of the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units that support the backup power to the security surveillance servers and related network switches.
Maps out the security system for the district and provides recommendations and specifications for purchase.
Researches evaluates and recommends new security and emergency radio technology; recommends and implements software and hardware upgrades for all security and emergency radio systems; manages equipment.
Maintains system documentation for all surveillance and emergency radio systems.
Monitors and maintains video and intrusion alarm systems; responds appropriately to breaches in security.
Assists in security implementation in new and remodeled buildings; recommends surveillance system management options.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
CLASS QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Security surveillance systems which can include Video Management Systems (VMS) Network Video Recorder (NVR) server hardware video streaming protocols and IP camera technology.
Maintains work order system for hardware and security requests.
Operates various equipment and hand tools related to assigned activities.
Attends a variety of meetings as assigned.
Participates in training and certification activities as needed.
Prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports related to assigned activities; prepares status reports or documents detailing equipment usage.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Minimum Requirements:
Five years of experience in electronic security systems repair and maintenance work with at least one year at the journey level.
Desirable qualifications:
Associates degree or college coursework or related certifications in a related field.
Written and oral proficiency in a second language.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Possession of a valid class C California drivers license. Be insured at standard vehicle liability and property damage insurance rates and maintain insurability.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Demands:
Employees in this classification must be physically and mentally able to perform the essential duties of the position without hazard to themselves or others. These include but are not limited to:
Significant lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; significant stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting 45% walking and 45% standing. The job is performed under temperature variations and some hazardous conditions.
Must be able to regularly stand walk and sit for extended periods of time.
Must be able to hear and speak to exchange information.
Have dexterity of hands to perform the tasks required of the position
Ability to sight in order to be aware of hazards and dangers found in the nature of the work.
Have mobility to climb stoop kneel reach push pull grasp and perform repetitive motions.
Ability to climb ladders of varying heights to reach and work on high-mounted equipment.
Ability to maneuver in crawl spaces offices and tunnels.
Have the ability to lift moderate to heavy objects up to forty (40) lbs.
Occasional overtime work may be required to accomplish organizational goals.
Work Environment:
Office indoor and outdoor environment with climate changes including hazardous conditions.
Incumbents may have to travel to conduct work.
