Job Summary
We are seeking a Unit Clerkto add to our dynamic team!The Unit Clerk plays a critical role in the smooth operation of a healthcare unit by managing administrative and clerical tasks that support medical staff and enhance patient care. This position serves as the communication hub between patients healthcare providers and other departments ensuring accurate and timely information flow. The Unit Clerk is responsible for maintaining patient records scheduling appointments and coordinating admissions and discharges which directly impacts the efficiency and quality of care delivered. By handling various documentation and logistical duties the Unit Clerk allows clinical staff to focus more on patient care. Ultimately this role contributes to a well-organized responsive and patient-centered healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain accurate patient records including admission transfer and discharge documentation
- Coordinate communication between healthcare providers patients and other hospital departments to facilitate smooth operations
- Schedule patient appointments tests and procedures while ensuring proper documentation and follow-up
- Answer phone calls respond to inquiries and direct communications appropriately within the unit
- Prepare and distribute reports forms and correspondence related to patient care and unit activities
- Assist with inventory management of office and medical supplies to ensure availability and proper stock levels
- Support clinical staff by organizing patient charts and ensuring all necessary documentation is complete and accessible
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in a healthcare or administrative support role preferred
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare documentation
- Proficiency with computer systems and electronic health records (EHR) software
- Strong organizational and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification as a Unit Clerk or Medical Secretary
- Experience working in a hospital or clinical setting
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality standards
- Advanced proficiency in healthcare management software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment
