Underground Operator
Job Summary
The Underground Operator will conduct inspections and quality checks to verify the integrity and functionality of plumbing installations. Troubleshoot and resolve plumbing system issues during construction and after project completion. Maintain accurate records including design drawings specifications and project documentation.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Excavation near existing utilities.
- Align and position pipes/drainage structures to prepare them for installation in a trench or excavation.
- Check slopes for conformance to requirements.
- Handling excavated & backfill material.
- Excavate trenches to grade at required depths and proper slopes.
- Proper backfill techniques to keep pipe on grade as well as sustain the desired pipe circumference/shape to obtain compaction.
- Operate the machine in a safe and efficient manner around the work areas.
- Understands and watches/checks machine control gauges fluid levels & lubrication daily.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills/Abilities:
- 3 years of excavator operation required.
- Excavation and large pipe installation for underground sewer utilities experience.
- Previous experience in water main installation.
- Experience with gravity sewer systems.
- Ability to read and understand drawings.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Valid Drivers License is required.
- Must be able to work long flexible hours including weekends.
- Ability to meet physical demands of the job: lift 50 pounds standing for long periods of time.
- Willingness to travel to different locations and work in a variety of weather conditions.
