Duties

SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a training technician providing educational and support services to staff and students of the Air Force Nuclear College (AFIT/ EXA).

DUTIES:

  1. Assists in planning coordinating and scheduling academic training events student classes instructors and resources.
  2. Prepares and maintains education and training records files and materials.
  3. Uses varied and advanced functions of office automation software to create format modify edit and print a variety of documents and support office operations.
  4. Executes Security Assistant responsibilities. Obtains
  5. Executes Facility Manager responsibilities.

  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • May be required to work other than normal duty hours to support the training mission.
  • The incumbent must have the ability to type a minimum of 40 WPM.
  • The employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • 25% travel or less is required.
Qualifications

In order to qualify you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions Clerical and Administrative Support Positions for the GS-1702 Education and Training Technician Series.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06 or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of an extensive body of education rules procedures and operations to perform the wide variety of education technician work related to the Colleges mission and objectives and to resolve a wide range of issues using accepted practices. Knowledge of the organizations operations and functions sufficient to evaluate information gathered from various sources and use basic analytical methods and techniques to determine adequacy of or deficiencies in the scheduling function. Knowledge of locally-established program objectives and practices requiring extended experience to initiate plan and coordinate interrelated technician activities. Knowledge of various office automation software programs tools and techniques to support office operations retrieve and input data and maintain accurate files. Knowledge of effective writing skills editing practices and application of communicate interpersonal skills are required to accomplish assigned responsibilities which include writing reports outlining education program program operations and recommending improvements.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge skills abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  1. In-depth knowledge of assigned education programs covering a broad range of functional areas of expertise.
  2. Knowledge of security manager and facility manager procedures and responsibilities.
  3. Knowledge of general office administrative and clerical procedures grammar spelling punctuation capitalization formatting rules procedures and operations applicable to clerical assignments to prepare/review routine correspondence/reports and perform clerical procedures to arrange a variety of material from different sources and other administrative work of organization.
  4. Skill in use of automation software and related equipment to enter maintain and retrieve curriculum data and to compile reports produce charts and graphs and monitor project/curriculum status.
  5. Ability to read and interpret specific procedural guidelines pertaining to administrative support including locally developed equipment operating and document processing instructions which are directly applicable to the work.
  6. Ability to analyze problems to verify and correlate basic data for processing travel requests vouchers and verify accuracy of computer output education and training products.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.
