Job Summary

DPP is seeking a Tool Engineer II for an opportunity with our client in the Aerospace and Defense Manufacturing industry.

Work location: Onsite in El Segundo CA
Duration: 4 months
Terms: W2 Contract
Work authorization: US Citizen; must be able to obtain/maintain a Secret security clearance

Position Summary:
  • In this role you will design industrial tools dies gauges drill & assembly jigs fixtures machine attachments and equipment required for assembly composite production or experimental use considering such factors as accessibility economy mobility and performance requirements.
  • This role works closely with manufacturing operations vendors and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure tooling meets quality cost schedule and safety requirements.
  • This position will have the ability to work autonomously and in a team environment adapt to processes and company policy while providing input or methods of process/design innovation.
  • The ideal candidate for this role will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with high expectations diverse assignments and collaborating with internal and external customers.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop tooling concepts and support equipment for new and existing programs.
  • Design tooling and equipment including engineering drawings inspection requirements and verification plans.
  • Review designs for manufacturability fit form and function.
  • Identify and mitigate safety risks in accordance with company and state/government standards.
  • Make layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of structures.
  • Develop basic data and make preliminary layouts sketches and notes necessary to present design proposals.
  • Interface with internal customers and design review teams to ensure requirements are met.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing operations and process engineering to support program quality delivery and cost objectives.
  • Manage tooling projects including cost schedule procurement and fabrication.
  • Check completed layouts and drawings for clarity completeness conformity to standards procedures specifications and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
  • Identify design errors omissions and other deficiencies and recommend revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.
  • Support vendors during fabrication and inspect fabricated tooling for drawing compliance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and proactive problem-solving Safety Process and Compliance.
  • Support investigations related to root cause analysis non-conformances and process failures.
Required Qualifications:
  • Experience with industry standard design tools including NX CAD & CATIA.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing fabrication processes & machine shop practices.
  • Experience with drawing release criteria and related documents for:
    • Completeness clarity and dimensional accuracy
    • Correctness of materials and processes
    • Conformity to design/drafting standards (e.g. GD&T) design specifications and practicability;
    • Economy of fabrication assembly and installation.
  • Knowledge and application of GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2018).
  • Knowledge and application of drawing weld symbols.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills in managing time projects and resources.
  • Technical attention to detail.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET security clearance & special program access.
  • Bachelors degree in a Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in engineering design and fabrication of special tooling and support equipment.
  • Experience in design fabrication and implementation of tooling used in the manufacture of composite parts.
  • Ability to evaluate vendor capabilities for tooling and aerospace part production.
  • Experience participating in developments project establishing tooling SOW & design estimates.
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Experience with stress analysis of simple to complex problems via hand calculations and FEMAP/NASTRAN.
  • Professional Engineering License.
  • Current active DOD Secret clearance with an investigation date/periodic review within the last 5 years.
