Job Summary

DPP is seeking a Tool Engineer II for an opportunity with our client in the Aerospace and Defense Manufacturing industry.

Work location: Onsite in El Segundo CA
Duration: 4 months
Terms: W2 Contract
Work authorization: US Citizen; must be able to obtain/maintain a Secret security clearance

Position Summary:

In this role you will design industrial tools dies gauges drill & assembly jigs fixtures machine attachments and equipment required for assembly composite production or experimental use considering such factors as accessibility economy mobility and performance requirements.
This role works closely with manufacturing operations vendors and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure tooling meets quality cost schedule and safety requirements.
This position will have the ability to work autonomously and in a team environment adapt to processes and company policy while providing input or methods of process/design innovation.
The ideal candidate for this role will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with high expectations diverse assignments and collaborating with internal and external customers.

Responsibilities:

Develop tooling concepts and support equipment for new and existing programs.
Design tooling and equipment including engineering drawings inspection requirements and verification plans.
Review designs for manufacturability fit form and function.
Identify and mitigate safety risks in accordance with company and state/government standards.
Make layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of structures.
Develop basic data and make preliminary layouts sketches and notes necessary to present design proposals.
Interface with internal customers and design review teams to ensure requirements are met.
Coordinate with manufacturing operations and process engineering to support program quality delivery and cost objectives.
Manage tooling projects including cost schedule procurement and fabrication.
Check completed layouts and drawings for clarity completeness conformity to standards procedures specifications and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
Identify design errors omissions and other deficiencies and recommend revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.
Support vendors during fabrication and inspect fabricated tooling for drawing compliance.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and proactive problem-solving Safety Process and Compliance.
Support investigations related to root cause analysis non-conformances and process failures.

Required Qualifications:

Experience with industry standard design tools including NX CAD & CATIA.
Knowledge of manufacturing fabrication processes & machine shop practices.
Experience with drawing release criteria and related documents for:
- Completeness clarity and dimensional accuracy
- Correctness of materials and processes
- Conformity to design/drafting standards (e.g. GD&T) design specifications and practicability;
- Economy of fabrication assembly and installation.
Knowledge and application of GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2018).
Knowledge and application of drawing weld symbols.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills in managing time projects and resources.
Technical attention to detail.
Must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET security clearance & special program access.
Bachelors degree in a Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
Experience in engineering design and fabrication of special tooling and support equipment.
Experience in design fabrication and implementation of tooling used in the manufacture of composite parts.
Ability to evaluate vendor capabilities for tooling and aerospace part production.
Experience participating in developments project establishing tooling SOW & design estimates.
Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
Excellent organizational and project management skills.
Experience with stress analysis of simple to complex problems via hand calculations and FEMAP/NASTRAN.
Professional Engineering License.
Current active DOD Secret clearance with an investigation date/periodic review within the last 5 years.
