Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking a senior-level Electrical Engineer specializing in Nuclear Hardness & Survivability (NH&S) of Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) to directly support ICBM Sentinel System Program Office (SPO) development with our C4ISR Systems Division.
The selected candidate must be an expert in Electro-Magnetic Radiation (EMR) and have the ability to ensure that Sentinel requirements are met in the areas of Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI) Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordinance (HERO) Shielding Effectiveness (SE) High-altitude Electro-Magnetic Pulse (HEMP) Systems generated Electro-Magnetic Pulse (SREMP) TEMPEST and Lightning effects.
This position requires onsite support on our Ogden UT campus.

Responsibilities in directly supporting the Sentinel SPO with E3 EMR expertise include:
- Sentinel E3 development with special emphasis on nuclear hardness and survivability in electromagnetic environments including design and evaluation of weapon components equipment and subsystems
- Works Sentinel requirements and ensures compliance within ICBM environments these environments include temperature altitude vibration shock acceleration humidity sand and dust low pressure drop acoustic noise power variations and radiation such that all Sentinel sites subsystems and facilities become Certified and Accredited (C&A)
- Performs technical requirements analysis pertaining to nuclear weapon NH&S/E3
- Ensures Sentinel requirements are met within ICBM environments including Addressing compromising Electro-Magnetic (EM) emanations (e.g. HEMP TEMPEST) ensuring Emission Security (EMSEC) for Sentinel systems their processing of NC2 information and new Sentinel facilities at multiple ICBM sites
- Assesses the EMI/CMC risk of unintentional radio electrical opto-electrical signals sounds and vibrations to protect ICBM classified or sensitive nuclear command control and communiques (NC3) information which is governed by the National Security Agency (NSA)
- Contributes to systems and specialty engineering tasks ensures Sentinel design development and production meet the Weapons Systems Specifications (WSS) for both the SPO and the Integrated Product Team (IPT)
- Prevents Sentinel system and NC3 information espionage via EMR emanations acoustic emissions or other potential compromising signals or emanations
- Analyzes shielding effectiveness and grounding techniques to protect against EMR and ensure communications security (COMSEC)
- Analyzes prepares and reviews documentation for highly complex missile engineering and operational acquisition for NH&S especially E3/EMR hardness
- Recommends Sentinel design modifications to eliminate or mitigate NH&S/E3 system malfunction
- Reviews system requirements specifications or changes for emission security (EMSEC) to prevent compromising emanations (TEMPEST)
- Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
- Graduate degree in electrical engineering
- 15 years of relevant experience in E3 EMSEC TEMPEST or related electromagnetic effects within defense or national security programs
- Nuclear weapons E3 EMR expertise such as HEMP HERO and/or nuclear weapon TEMPEST certification
- Nuclear weapons environmental qualifications testing expertise in domains such as Temperature/Altitude Vibration Shock Acceleration and Ionizing Radiation
- Working knowledge of electromagnetic vulnerabilities and mitigation techniques including shielding effectiveness grounding/bonding and emission control strategies
- Ability to translate ambiguous or evolving requirements into actionable engineering guidance
- Good understanding of semiconductors signal processing and wireless communication
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams
- Active Top Secret/SCI Access Clearance
- Practical understanding of NSTISSAM TEMPEST guidance and its application in system design and facility environments
- Demonstrated hands-on experience supporting TEMPEST evaluation certification or accreditation activities (e.g. system or facility-level assessments)
- Experience interpreting and implementing EMSEC requirements in coordination with government stakeholders (e.g. NSA service certification authorities or program offices)
- Experience supporting TEMPEST test events red/black engineering or facility accreditation efforts
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-461 MIL-STD-464 and MIL-STDin the context of E3/EMI/EMC and EMSEC integration
- Experience with HEMP lightning effects HERO or broader E3 domains
- Prior experience in a UARC FFRDC or government laboratory environment
- This role may require travel to government and test facilities
- Selected candidates may be required to attend specialized TEMPEST training (e.g. National TEMPEST School)
- $150000 - $205000
- Salary commensurate on education and relevant experience
