The Technical Editor is responsible for reviewing editing and maintaining technical documentation to ensure accuracy consistency clarity and compliance with organizational standards. This role works closely with technical writers engineers product teams and subject matter experts to produce high-quality documentation for internal and external audiences.
The Technical Editor ensures technical materials are clear well-structured and aligned with style guidelines while supporting product releases operational documentation and knowledge management initiatives in a fully remote environment.

Key Responsibilities
Editorial & Documentation Management
Edit technical documents for grammar clarity accuracy formatting and consistency
Review user guides manuals knowledge base articles SOPs release notes and technical publications
Ensure compliance with editorial standards templates and style guides
Validate terminology and technical accuracy with subject matter experts
Content Quality & Compliance
Maintain documentation quality standards across all materials
Ensure content aligns with company branding regulatory requirements and documentation policies
Verify document structure metadata references and version control procedures
Identify content gaps and recommend improvements
Collaboration & Stakeholder Support
Work closely with technical writers engineers developers and product teams
Support documentation lifecycle processes and publication schedules
Provide editorial feedback and recommendations to content creators
Assist with content migration and documentation modernization projects
Documentation Systems & Publishing
Manage documentation repositories and version tracking processes
Support publishing workflows and document release procedures
Maintain editorial records and change histories
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in English Communications Journalism Technical Writing or related field
36 years of experience in technical editing technical writing documentation or publishing environments
Strong editing proofreading and content review skills
Excellent command of grammar style and editorial standards
Ability to interpret technical concepts and communicate clearly
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Experience managing multiple deadlines and projects
Ability to work independently in a remote environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with documentation tools such as Microsoft Word Adobe Acrobat and Confluence
Familiarity with documentation systems such as MadCap Flare or Adobe FrameMaker
Experience using version control tools such as Git
Knowledge of style standards including AP Chicago or Microsoft Style Guide
Experience supporting software engineering healthcare or enterprise documentation environments preferred
Compensation
Annual Salary Range:$75000 $105000 USD depending on experience technical specialization and industry background
Estimated Hourly Equivalent:$36 $50 per hour
