Tech Pro Assistant Technical Director Campus Commons

Position Summary:

This is a temporary position is expected to last between 1 to 9 months with a compensation of $4000 per month.

The CampusCommons Assistant Technical Director supports the safe efficient andprofessional operation of the Campus Commons Performance Hall and other PVAperformance and event spaces. The position provides hands-on technicalproduction support in lighting audio video rigging and stage operations;supervises and trains student production staff; and serves as a technical leadfor rehearsals performances and special events.

Working as part of the PVA Production Teamthe Assistant Technical Director collaborates with faculty staff studentsguest artists and external clients to translate production requirements intosafe and practical technical solutions. The position also assists withmaintenance inspection organization and continuous improvement of performancespaces theatrical systems equipment and production procedures.

Job Duties:

50% Technical Production & Event Operations

• Serve as technical lead or production technician for rehearsals performances concerts rentals and special events.
• Operate program install configure and troubleshoot theatrical lighting audio video projection communications and related production systems.
• Safely operate theatrical rigging systems personnel lifts stage machinery acoustic shells and other specialized equipment.
• Coordinate technical setup changeover strike and restoration of performance spaces.
• Interpret event requirements and determine safe efficient methods for accomplishing production needs.
• Troubleshoot technical problems during live events and make timely operational decisions.

20% Supervision of Student Work Crew

• Direct supervise and coordinate student production crews during calls and events.
• Assign work communicate expectations monitor performance and provide coaching and corrective feedback.
• Train student employees in safe operation of production equipment and established procedures.
• Model professional production practices customer service teamwork and workplace safety.
• Assist the Technical Director and Production Team indeveloping and maintaining training materials SOPs and safety procedures.

20% Venue & Equipment Maintenance

• Perform routine inspection maintenance troubleshooting cleaning and organization of performance spaces and production equipment.
• Identify equipment deficiencies and safety concerns and coordinate repair or replacement with the Technical Director.
• Maintain organized backstage storage booth shop and technical work areas.
• Assist with equipment inventory preventative maintenance documentation and lifecycle planning.
• Support improvement projects involving theatrical infrastructure and production systems.

10% Other duties as Assisned

The position frequently works independentlyduring rehearsals performances and events and must make immediate decisionsinvolving safety equipment personnel scheduling and production situations occur during live events where consultation with a supervisoris impractical and delays could result in injury equipment damage disruptionof a performance or a poor experience for artists and audiences.

The Assistant Technical Director must evaluatetechnical and artistic requests identify potential hazards or operationalconflicts and develop practical solutions within established safety standardsavailable resources schedules and production capabilities.

Examples include diagnosing and resolving anaudio lighting video or control-system failure during a live performance;modifying a production plan when requested staging or equipment cannot besafely accommodated; or directing student crews through complex eventchangeovers under limited time constraints.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in theatre technicalproduction entertainment technology music technology or a related field andtwo years of relevant professional experience; or an equivalent combinationof education and professional experience.
• Demonstrated experience in live event or theatrical production.
• Working knowledge of at least two production disciplines such as audio lighting video/projection rigging or stage operations.
• Experience troubleshooting technical systems in a live production environment.
• Experience directing or coordinating the work of crews.
• Ability to safely work at height and operate specialized theatrical equipment following training.
• Strong organizational communication and customer-service skills.
• Ability to work independently prioritize competing demands and make sound decisions under time constraints.
• Abilityand willingness to learn unfamiliar production systems and technologies

Preferred experience:

• Experience with networked audio lighting or video systems including Dante and DMX/sACN/Art-Net.
• Experience with theatrical rigging and counterweight systems.
• Experience with digital audio consoles and theatrical lighting control systems.
• Experience supervising or training student employees.
• Experience in higher education performing arts centers presenting organizations or similar multi-use venues.
