Position Summary

The Teacher of the Severely Multiply Impaired (SXI) is responsible for the instructional program and implementation of activities for the students in the assigned classroom. Responsible for the coordination of the activities of the assigned para-educators and support staff providing services for students in the assigned area.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelors degree required. Valid Michigan teaching certificate required with approval in at least one of the following special education areas: Cognitive Impairment Visual Impairment Hearing Impairment and/or Physically or Otherwise Health Impaired (POHI).
  • Experience: One to two years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Plans coordinates and delivers individualized instruction for students with severe multiple impairments including developing lesson plans annual goals short-term objectives and instructional strategies based on student needs.
  • Prepares required MET IEPC attendance and student reports; participates in and helps coordinate evaluations IEPC meetings and related special education processes.
  • Develops and implements behavior management plans assists with required health care procedures and participates in physical education lunch play gym community-based and other student activities.
  • Communicates and works cooperatively with students parents/guardians district staff and constituent district staff; participates in staff meetings professional development in-service activities and special programs.
  • Works effectively as part of a team accepts supervision and direction demonstrates sound judgment and professionalism maintains punctuality and good attendance uses district technology and has the physical stamina required to safely support and assist students.
  • Develops and supplements curriculum for classroom and community environments coordinates instructional materials and classroom activities models Win-Win leadership and performs other related duties as assigned.
Compensation & Benefits

Pay Range:$48446- $94537 annually commensurate with experience and qualifications

Work Schedule: 206 days / 7 hours daily

Paid Time Off:

  • Sick and Personal Business paid time up to 13 days
