POSITION:Teacher Assistant - Daycare (Part-Time)
REPORTS TO:Principal
SALARY GRADE:56-TA
NATURE OF WORK: The Daycare Teacher Assistant supports the Lead Daycare Teacher in providing a safe nurturing and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children ages 3-5. The assistant helps implement planned instructional activities supervises and supports children throughout the day assists with classroom routines and care needs and helps maintain a clean safe and organized learning environment. Work must be performed in accordance with requirements of the North Carolina Division of Child Development and Early Education and Nash County Public Schools. The Daycare Teacher Assistant works collaboratively with the Lead Daycare Teacher Childrens Center Director Career Development Coordinator and School Principal and performs other duties necessary to support the effective operation of the daycare program.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:
- Assists the Lead Daycare Teacher with implementing developmentally appropriate learning activities and classroom routines.
- Provides individual and small-group support to children as directed.
- Actively supervises children during classroom activities meals/snacks transitions outdoor play and other program activities.
- Assists children with personal care needs including toileting hygiene meals/snacks and other age-appropriate needs.
- Helps maintain a safe nurturing positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Uses positive guidance and developmentally appropriate strategies to support childrens behavior and social-emotional development.
- Prepares instructional materials learning centers equipment and classroom spaces.
- Assists with cleaning and sanitizing classroom materials equipment facilities and areas affected by toileting or illness accidents.
- Observes children and communicates relevant information regarding progress behavior health or other needs to the Lead Daycare Teacher.
- Assists with maintaining required classroom records and documentation.
- Communicates professionally and respectfully with children families staff and high school early childhood
- Assists the Lead Daycare Teacher with supporting high school early childhood interns participating in the daycare program.
- Follows established emergency procedures safety requirements confidentiality requirements and daycare regulations.
- Participates in required meetings professional development and training.
- Performs other duties as assigned in support of the daycare program.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Additional Duties may be assigned.
- Working knowledge of child development and age-appropriate practices for children ages 3-5
- Ability to establish positive relationships with young children
- Ability to follow instructional plans and directions provided by the Lead Daycare Teacher
- Ability to supervise children and recognize safety concerns
- Ability to use positive guidance and behavior-support strategies
- Ability to communicate effectively with children families staff and student interns.
- Ability to maintain accurate records as assigned
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a daycare and school-based team.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals consistent with the duties of this position
- Ability to compose and write routine reports consistent with the duties of this position
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators staff and the general public consistent with the duties of this position
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists consistent with the duties of this position
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form consistent with the duties of this position
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and use fingers tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision color vision and depth perception. Occasionally the employee will lift up to 50 lbs. such as to lift files and paper. Must be able to lift and carry children and equipment. Will be required to sit on floor or in child size furniture
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee continuously interacts with the public and staff.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Day care teaching experience
- 2 or 4 year degree in a related area/OR working towards obtaining a related degree
- Completion of 96 Community College/University contact hours and an acceptable score on college placement test in reading writing and math.
- Eligible for Early Childhood Level I and II credentials
- Other credentials and certifications include CPR and playground safety
- Will need to have or obtain a Federal Background check
