Job Summary

Position Summary:

oin the University of Daytons IT department and play a key role in supporting the reliable secure technology services that power our University this role you will work alongside other members of the Enterprise Enabling Technologies team to maintain our server environments monitor system performance and security apply upgrades and help support a stable infrastructure. You will also work with other cross-functional teams across UDit to build new enterprise systems. This position provides systems administration support for the Universitys Windows and Linux servers and associated software packages. Will perform server administration of virtual and physical servers maintain server hardware change management performance monitoring and system maintenance. Monitor security alerts and install tested patches and upgrades. Will work in conjunction with leadership systems architect and other systems engineers to apply systems standards to servers to ensure a stable and secure environment. Position will be required to work on call hours (after hours weekend and holidays) occasionally.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications for the Systems Engineer:
Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related field OR at least four years of equivalent relevant experience required
Experience with OS (linux / windows) installation and administration
Working knowledge of servers networking firewalls and virtualization
Experience working on multiple projects in a fast paced dynamic environment
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of users and support staff
Ability to collaborate professionally with a diverse group of users and support staff

A Senior Systems Engineer must meet all Systems Engineer minimum qualifications in addition to the qualifications listed below:
Bachelors degree in a technical field OR at least four years of equivalent relevant experience
At least three years of relevant professional experience as a Systems Engineer in an enterprise environment

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

At least five years of experience in a Systems Engineer environment
Direct experience with Banner Oracle
Experience working with virtualization technologies (XCP-ng Proxmox VMWare)
Experience working with containerization technologies (Podman Docker Kubernetes)
Experience with databases (MySQL MariaDB Postgres)
Experience with load balancers / reverse proxies (F5 HAProxy)
Experience with Java Application Servers (Tomcat Jetty)
Experience with HTTP Servers (Apache Caddy)
Experience working with SAN and NAS storage technologies
Experience working with HP Blades
Working knowledge of networking
Demonstrated troubleshooting on a variety of systems
Prior professional work experience in higher education
Previous relevant experience in a large enterprise environment
