Job Description:

General Statement

Under the direct supervision of the Surgical Technology Program Coordinator the lab assistant will observe and provide feedback to students performing surgical procedures and techniques in a non-patient contact environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures students are using proper techniques of disinfection sterilization and antisepsis.
  • Prepares demonstrations organizing supplies/equipment.
  • Assistinstructors with demonstrations and monitoring of student performance.
  • Notifies the Surgical Technology Program Coordinator of equipment repair maintenance and replacement needs.
  • Ensuressurgical technology lab in compliance with college safety policies.
  • Provides feedback to students during lab demonstration of lab skills. Lab skills include positioning scrubbing gowning gloving establishment of a sterile field and proper use utilization of instruments supplies and equipment.
  • Monitors students using laparoscopic simulation.
  • Maintains documentation of skills as required by program accreditor.
Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency:
  • Be credentialed as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA);
  • Have a minimum total of two years of experience either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology (or a combination of both) within the past five years;
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel Word and PowerPoint)

  • Previous experience working in an educational setting as a lab assistant
