The Surgical Technologist demonstrates knowledge and practice of basic patient care concepts. Demonstrates basic surgical case preparation skills. Demonstrates responsible behavior as a health care professional. Demonstrates the ability to perform the role of the first scrub on all basic surgical cases. Demonstrates the application of the principles of asepsis. Demonstrates the application of the principles of aseptic technique.

Surgical Technologist Responsibilities:
- Accurately enter and update data in hospital databases spreadsheets and electronic systems.
- Maintain data integrity by performing regular audits and quality checks.
- Organize and file electronic and paper records in accordance with hospital policies.
- Assist in generating routine and ad hoc reports for internal departments and external agencies.
- Compile data for quality improvement compliance and performance tracking.
- Support data collection for surveys audits and accreditation processes.
- Work closely with clinical administrative and IT teams to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
- Respond to data-related inquiries and provide support for departmental projects.
- Communicate discrepancies or issues to appropriate staff for resolution.
- Conducts daily maintenance on all databases housed within the department.
- Maintains the structure and integrity of all data by performing regular quality checks.
- Performs data entry using database or spreadsheet software in a timely and accurate manner to facilitate the availability of data for quick analysis.
- May perform additional duties as assigned.
Surgical Technologist 1 Requirements:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association (AHA)
Licensure: Registered Surgical Technologist in the Commonwealth of VA
Surgical Technologist 2 Requirements:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Experience: 1 year of surgical technologist experience
Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association (AHA)
Licensure: Registered Surgical Technologist in the Commonwealth of VA
Surgical Technologist 3 Requirements:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Experience: 2 years of surgical technologist experience
Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association (AHA); Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA or Tech in Surgery Certified (TS-C) via NCCT
Licensure: Registered Surgical Technologist in the Commonwealth of VA
