Job Summary

Surgical Aide - Operating Room

Schedule: 5x8 Days

Assists in ensuring optimal patient care by providing basic patient care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing the assigned physical environment and supporting the safe efficient operation of the surgical department.

Frye Regional Medical Center located in the beautiful foothills of North Carolina is a 355-bed acute care hospital with an 81-bed Behavioral Health facility and more than 70 primary and specialty care providers.

Essential Functions

• Performs direct patient care responsibilities as needed under the supervision of an RN or LPN.
• Assists with patient preparation and positioning.
• Performs assigned departmental tasks that support patient transportation patient positioning room readiness and operating room turnover between surgical procedures.
• Cleans and sanitizes assigned areas to maintain a safe orderly and efficient environment.
• Keeps shelves stocked with necessary supplies.
• Delivers specimens to the laboratory.
• Retrieves X-rays patient charts and other necessary materials.
• Assists with maintaining operating room equipment beds and related items.
• Supports the surgical team by completing assigned tasks promptly and accurately.

Minimum Education

• High school diploma or equivalent; or
• Two years of experience in an operating room setting

Minimum Work Experience

• Experience with operating room turnover
• Knowledge of operating room equipment beds and related supplies
• Previous healthcare experience as a Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant in an operating room setting
• Prior housekeeping experience is desirable
