Summary

This job opportunity is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE REPAIRER position position description Dwithin the ((ALL) FMS-CSMS-UTES SHOPS)) of the New Jersey National Guard. This vacancy announcement is a Title 32 Excepted Service position.

The purpose of this position is to perform limited diagnosis routine repairs and maintenance on combat tactical commercial and special purpose vehicles and equipment. May assist higher graded mechanics in the performance of maintenance duties.


Duties

As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE REPAIRER WGyou may be expected to accomplish the following:

  • Perform limited diagnosis routine repairs and maintenance on heavy-duty mobile equipment combat tactical and automotive vehicles
  • Perform limited diagnoses to determine the cause of mechanical failures by means of visual and auditory checks
  • Independently perform routine repairs and maintenance functions in remote locations
  • Conduct limited readiness and repair inspections on vehicles and associated equipment supported by the activity
  • Maintain supply documents receipts and inventory

    • Individuals eligible for membership in the New Jersey ARMY National Guard
    Military Grades: E-1 to E-6

    Title 32 Dual-Status Positions: Compatible Military Assignments

    Appointments may require the selected candidate to be assigned to a *military unit* compatible with the full-time Military Technician (Dual Status) position.

    *Military Unit* -- The unit by which the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee; or a unit that the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee to support. (Guidance established by NJ HRO-J1)

    Additional Requirements
    • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory
    • Appointment is contingent upon Federal suitability review and background investigation
    • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period
    • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles candidates must have a valid state drivers license
    Qualifications

    General Experience:
    Experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs simple preventative maintenance tasks and is able to use common tools and equipment in the line of work.

    Specialized Experience:
    At least 12 months experience or training in the following areas:

    • Use of common hand and power tools and a small variety of test and measurement devices to make mechanical repairs
    • Removing adjusting replacing cleaning and installing a variety of parts components and accessories
    • Demonstrating a basic understanding of mechanical electrical and hydraulic theory applying to vehicles; and skill to replace fit install and make adjustments
    • Demonstrating an understanding of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships
    • Reading and interpreting parts lists manufactures repair manuals diagrams and electrical schematics
