Job Description:

Airbus is looking for a Summer Intern - Business Development to join our Customer Services Business Development team based in Herndon VA.


As a Business Development Intern you will operate at the intersection of internal transformation and external market strategy helping our team map the path forward for new initiatives. Rather than routine administrative work you will be handed an opportunity a goal without a clear roadmap and tasked with helping us build the strategic exploration architecture and / or operational design required to move it forward.


Meet the Team:

The Regional Services Business Development team operates as internal consultants for Airbus Americas Customer Services specializing in initiatives that carry high ambiguity and require strategic definition before execution. Our mission is to develop the structural and commercial future of Airbus Customer Services. We transform strategic goals into revenue-ready deliverables through strategic design internal transformation and commercial enablement. We dont just execute on predefined tasks we define the problems build the blueprints and pilot the solutions.



Your Working Environment:

The Washington D.C. metro area is home to multiple Airbus offices: In our nations capital you will find the Airbus Experience Center a collection of interactive multimedia exhibitions highlighting the extensive role the company plays in the aviation aerospace and defense industries in the U.S. and around the world. The D.C. area is also home to our regional corporate headquarters located adjacent to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) - it makes flying in a breeze!


Your Challenges:

Depending on business priorities at the time of your internship your core project will support one or more of our core operating pillars:

  • Strategic Architecture & Organizational Design: Help define Phase Zero problems by architecting strategy for new services or internal systems. You will help turn ambiguous starting points into clear problem statements and to-be roadmaps.

  • Market Scouting & External Exploration: Conduct competitive benchmarking and investigate new external trends in commercial aviation services to build validated go-to-market hypotheses.

  • Strategy to Execution: Act as an internal consultant to help redesign workflows resolve friction points (tech operational etc.) and build the internal processes necessary to support new growth.

  • Commercial Viability: Designing the value proposition pricing models and prototypes to prove the commercial value of a new service or product.



Your Boarding Pass:

Required:

  • Ability to work onsite in Herndon VA for the duration of the summer internship
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering Engineering Management or Business Administration
  • Authorized to work in the US without current or future visa sponsorship
  • Hybrid Thinker: You possess a strong mix of business acumen and technical curiosity. While no specific coding languages or aerospace engineering tools are required you should be comfortable working alongside engineering operational and sales teams to synthesize complex information.
  • Comfortable with Ambiguity: You thrive when handed a problem without a clear solution. You know how to ask the right questions to define the What and the Why before jumping into the How.
  • Strategic & Operational Mindset: You can look at the Outside-In (market trends and customer needs) just as easily as the Inside-Out (internal organizational design and workflows).
  • Spoken Written Influencing Proficiency in English as required by the Job
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace. No specific coding language or technical engineering software is required.

  • Onsite or remote: On-site.
  • Vision: able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens able to read documents reports and engineering drawings.
  • Hearing: able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings deliver information and participate in communications.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer telephone copies fax machine and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.
  • Carrying: able to carry documents tools drawings electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs
  • Lifting: able to lift documents tools drawings electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs
  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.
  • Sitting: able to sit for periods of time in meetings working on the computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.
  • Travel: N/A
  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
  • Personal Protective Equipment could be required if in an area that requires PPE. Required PPE includes but is not limited to Safety Shoes Safety Glasses Hearing Protection Respirators/Masks and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site
  • Administrative position only NO PPE required: Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor.

Ability to work in the US without current or future need of visa sponsorship/work authorization is required for this position.


Pay Range:

Hourly range based on the required profile: $24 - $39.75/hour. Rate determined by type of degree program and year in school (Bachelors through Masters). Actual minimum and maximum may vary based on geographic differential. Individual pay is based on skills experience and other relevant factors.
