The Sub-System Lead Engineer (SSLE) for Electric Power Components will lead the technical definition integration and validation of low-voltage electric power subsystems and their vehicle interfaces. The scope includes lead-acid batteries intelligent battery sensors DC/AC inverters generators and related power communication diagnostic and control interfaces across current and future vehicle programs.
This role is accountable for translating vehicle and system needs into clear testable subsystem requirements; maintaining alignment across hardware software controls diagnostics calibration safety validation manufacturing service and suppliers; and driving timely resolution of complex technical issues. The SSLE will operate with a high level of independent judgment influence technical direction across organizational boundaries and lead work through collaboration rather than direct people management.
The Role
As a senior technical individual contributor you will own the requirements and technical integration strategy for an assigned Electric Power subsystem or group of interfaces. You will connect customer and vehicle-level needs to component-level implementation and verification ensuring that the resulting solution is robust traceable manufacturable serviceable and ready for program milestones.
You will work closely with Design Release Engineers Functional System Architects system and safety engineers controls and software teams technical specialists validation teams manufacturing purchasing service and suppliers. You will also provide technical leadership to cross-functional teams and guide the work of other engineers as needed.
What Youll Do
Lead the definition and maintenance of subsystem requirements for lead-acid batteries intelligent battery sensors DC/AC inverters generators and related Electric Power interfaces.
Develop review and maintain Sub-System Technical Specifications and where applicable Behavioral Technical Specifications interface requirements diagnostic requirements and acceptance criteria.
Decompose system and vehicle requirements into clear complete consistent feasible and verifiable subsystem requirements with full traceability.
Maintain requirements and interface content in the approved requirements-management environment including DOORS/DNG or successor tools and ensure changes are controlled and communicated.
Develop or contribute to Model-Based Systems Engineering artifacts such as context block definition use-case activity and internal block diagrams to clarify subsystem behavior and interfaces.
Lead cross-functional requirement and behavior discussions including triad reviews and Given/When/Then scenario development where applicable.
Partner with Design Release Engineers and suppliers to ensure component designs packaging electrical interfaces communication behavior diagnostics and performance meet subsystem intent.
Collaborate with controls software diagnostics calibration and systems teams to review implementation resolve integration gaps and ensure hardware and software operate as an integrated solution.
Define and maintain the validation intent for the subsystem including testable scenarios acceptance criteria test coverage and support for the Testable Functionality Roll-Out Plan.
Coordinate with bench vehicle simulation and virtual-validation teams to evaluate designs investigate anomalies and close issues using quantitative and qualitative evidence.
Support development and maintenance of subsystem and solution FMEAs including linkage to safety manufacturing service and software-related failure modes.
Support safety regulatory OBD cybersecurity and other compliance-related requirements as applicable to the assigned subsystem.
Lead root-cause analysis for subsystem issues drive corrective actions with the responsible teams and suppliers and translate approved resolutions into updated requirements or interface definitions.
Participate in design reviews technical reviews program milestone assessments issue reviews Agile ceremonies iteration planning and program increment activities as applicable.
Manage technical work through the appropriate backlog and issue-tracking tools including Jira and maintain clear status decisions risks and dependencies.
Drive alignment across multiple vehicle programs and stakeholders when Electric Power components or interfaces are reused variantized or changed.
Identify technical risks early establish recovery actions and communicate concise recommendations to engineering and program leadership.
Mentor and coach engineers in requirements quality systems thinking interface management validation intent and disciplined issue resolution.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in electrical engineering mechanical engineering computer engineering systems engineering or a related engineering discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
At least five plus years of experience in automotive engineering systems engineering component development electrical architecture or a closely related technical field.
Experience developing reviewing or managing requirements for automotive systems subsystems components or interfaces.
Knowledge of automotive communication and diagnostic technologies such as CAN LIN GMLAN serial data U-services RIDs DIDs or OBD.
Experience with DFMEA subsystem or solution FMEA supplier DFMEA DRBFM design reviews and validation
Experience with low-voltage vehicle electrical systems including 12V and/or 48V architectures power distribution battery systems sensing conversion generation or related interfaces.
Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical issues from problem definition through root cause corrective action validation and closure.
Experience working across hardware software controls validation manufacturing service and supplier organizations.
Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly to engineers suppliers program teams and leadership.
Demonstrated ability to work independently exercise sound engineering judgment manage competing priorities and influence outcomes without direct authority.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with lead-acid batteries intelligent battery sensors DC/AC inverters generators or vehicle power-management systems.
Experience with requirements-management and traceability tools such as DOORS/DNG Jira or comparable platforms.
Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering SysML Rhapsody behavioral requirements or Given/When/Then methods.
Experience with virtual validation simulation co-simulation electrical analysis or data-driven troubleshooting.
Familiarity with functional safety regulatory compliance cybersecurity manufacturing service and design-for-quality considerations.
Experience leading suppliers and coordinating technical deliverables across multiple vehicle programs.
Success in This Role
Success will be demonstrated by requirements and interfaces that are complete traceable testable and aligned across the vehicle architecture; timely closure of technical and validation issues; disciplined change management; effective supplier and cross-functional execution; and robust Electric Power subsystem integration through development release launch and production support.
