Pay Rate: $10-$15/hr based on experience
Job Description:
- The ECS IT Support group seeking a motivated and technically skilled student worker to assist the IT support group within the School of Engineering & Computer Science. This individual will help to design and implement back-end database-driven web systems to help improve operations and academic processes along with providing general IT support for the School.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design develop and maintain PHP-based web applications to improve departmental processes.
- Develop user interfaces that are functional intuitive and accessible.
- Test and debug applications to ensure reliability performance and security.
- Participate in project planning meetings with supervisor and IT Support staff.
- Follow institutional data security and privacy requirements when working with student and academic information.
- Maintain version control and software development best practices.
- Provide general IT support and troubleshooting when requested.
- Ensure the security and confidentiality of sensitive information and data.
- Assist with various projects activities and tasks related to business operations
- Ability to comply with University policies
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance
Required Qualifications:
- Current student with demonstrated experience in:
- Computer Science Information Systems Software Engineering or related field.
- SQL database design and querying.
- PHP HTML CSS and basic JavaScript.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with MySQL MariaDB or Microsoft SQL Server.
- Familiarity with database normalization and relational database concepts.
- Experience using Git or other version control systems.
- Knowledge of web application security principles.
- Experience developing applications in a Linux or Windows server environment.
- Familiarity with API integration and data exchange formats such as JSON or XML.
- Prior experience working on academic research or administrative software projects.
Physical and Working Conditions:
- Primarily office and computer-based work.
- Flexible scheduling around class commitments.
- Ability to drive on behalf of Baylor University
*Preference is given to students who qualify for Federal Work Study
