This recruitment will be used to create a pool of part-time (a maximum of 24hours per week) Student Technical Assistant positions for the Department of Animal and Rangeland Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU). The positions are based out of the off-campus Soap Creek Beef Ranch.
Qualified applicants will be contacted as positions become available. The positions include animal care and maintenance of the facility and pastures and may include research and data collection.
The role of this position is to assist the Beef Ranch manager in daily operations of the Soap and Berry Creek Beef Ranches. Duties include:
Feeding watering and caring for the animals and ensuring proper health is a top priority.
Collaboration with the farm manager and fellow student employees as well as some individual work.
Keep a safe clean and organized environment for people and livestock.
Facility upkeep for the main beef ranches as well as other campus locations.
Build and repair fence.
Assist with cattle management including calving vaccinating and doctoring as needed.
Assist with setting up for labs and research studies as needed.
Drive ATVs and farm equipment as needed

Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered full-time by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by theOffice of International Services(OIS) and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Preferred Qualifications:
Past experience that demonstrates the ability to work as a team
Experience working around or with cattle
This is an off campus facility employee must have a reliable form of transportation.
Employee may have exposure to noxious odors infectious diseases chemicals loud noises slippery floors and machinery.
Employee will be exposed to inclement weather conditions.
Employee will need to maneuver items that weigh up to 50 pounds
Employee may be required to stoop bend and kneel to provide care of the animals.
Overnight shifts on rare occasion
Employees are expected to work at least one weekend per month.
Employees work schedule will be set according to class schedule.
