Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Structural Engineering Intern Bridge & Transportation Structures interested in joining the AECOM team in our Mechanicsburg PA office.

The position offers the opportunity to gain experience on a variety of infrastructure projects including the design of bridges and other transportation structures such as walls and sign structures that are critical to our nations transportation network and vital to local communities.

This position is expected to begin in Spring/Summer 2027.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Applying technical training to perform basic calculations work well in a team setting and be willing to work diligently to learn new skills.
  • Assisting with tasks related to the design analysis rehabilitation and inspection of highway bridges and ancillary transportation structures.
  • Assisting with preliminary to final design calculations and plan development reviewing of field information possible field inspection of existing facilities.
  • Assisting with general office administration including technical report reproduction.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidate must be pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline. Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelors degree and plan to continue with the Masters degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelors degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
  • Must have completed 2 years of study at the time of the internship.
  • Due to the nature of the work US Citizenship is required for this position.
  • Valid U.S. Drivers License and as a condition of employment must pass AECOMs motor vehicle records review.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some basic coursework in steel and concrete design.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation software.
  • Team oriented with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time deadlines keep track of steps and prioritize tasks.

Additional Information :

  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
  • Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.
  • This is a hybrid position. The selected candidate must be able to work on-site in Mechanicsburg PA a minimum of two days per week.
