The Startup Project Manager Internship is an on-site part-time internship (20 hours a week) during the Spring 2027 academic season (February/March 2027 May/June 2027) based at a Amazon fulfillment center under construction.
Upon school release for Summer 2027 (May/June 2027 July/August 2027) this position shifts to a 12-week internship full-time (40 hours/week) with potential travel opportunities to other fulfillment centers under construction and corporate offices across the United States.
This is NOT a corporate or virtual position and will be located on-site in a fulfillment center sort center delivery station or other warehouse/construction/job trailer environment.
Amazons Global Engineering Maintenance & Sustainability (GEMS) Organization is looking for innovative and solutions-oriented interns to support our project management function. Startup Project Manager interns will support the coordination and execution of new build infrastructure and expansion/retrofit projects working alongside senior Project Managers to help deliver complex projects on time within budget and to Amazons standards. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on exposure to large-scale industrial project launches while developing your project management expertise through mentorship and real-world execution.
Key job responsibilities
Project Management & Execution
Support new and existing programs by owning specific workstreams and deliverables within larger projects
Drive resolution for an intern project by owning and deep diving data to support a process improvement recommendation
Assist in coordinating schedules across multiple vendors and internal teams to ensure alignment with project milestones and Go-Live dates
Track project deliverables milestones and action items; proactively identify potential delays and escalate
Maintain accurate project documentation in Amazons project management systems (Source)
Support project communication by preparing status updates clearing blockers and driving timely decisions
Assist with the development implementation and governance of business technical fiscal and administrative functions of assigned projects or sub-tasks
Budget & Resource Coordination
Assist with budget tracking and reporting; maintain accurate cost documentation and flag variances
Support purchase order approvals invoice processing and inventory tracking
Help coordinate resource allocation and procurement activities with internal teams and third-party logistics (3PL) partners
Track non-inventory items and support vendor coordination for project materials and equipment
Stakeholder Coordination & Communication
Coordinate with internal Amazon stakeholders across operations engineering procurement and site teams
Support weekly stakeholder meetings by preparing agendas taking meeting minutes and tracking action items to closure
Serve as a liaison between field teams project leadership and cross-functional partners
Communicate clearly and promptly with all internal and external stakeholders on assigned tasks and deliverables
Prepare presentation materials and project summaries as directed by the supervising Project Manager
Safety & Risk Management
Support Amazons safety programs and standards; participate in safety walks and report concerns immediately
Assist with risk identification tracking and mitigation activities
Support safety reporting and documentation requirements
Help maintain risk registers and escalate issues as necessary
Learning & Continuous Improvement
Actively develop project management expertise through on-the-job execution mentorship and Amazon training programs
Document lessons learned and contribute to process improvement initiatives
Identify and suggest improvements within assigned workstreams
Seek exposure to all phases of the project lifecycle to build breadth of knowledge and readiness for advancement
Develop proficiency with Amazons project management tools and systems
A day in the life
During the spring semester Startup PM interns work part-time at site location supporting project management activities such as updating project schedules tracking budgets and purchase orders preparing status reports coordinating with procurement and 3PL partners and supporting stakeholder communications. You will work under regular guidance from senior Project Managers and Subject Matter Expert (SME) building your knowledge of project management concepts and Amazons startup processes while contributing to real project deliverables.
During the summer full-time period interns travel to project sites to support active startup projects attend stakeholder meetings conduct site walks coordinate with vendors and 3PL teams on-site support Go-Live readiness activities and gain firsthand exposure to Amazons new build and expansion projects. You will work across multiple stakeholder groups and build effective working relationships while developing toward independence under the mentorship of senior Project Managers. Travel to various locations across the United States is expected during summer months (up to 80%).
Physical ability to:
Work 12-hour shifts on feet (when supporting field operations)
Cover extensive distances in large warehouse facilities
Use ladders stairs and gangways safely
Lift/move totes up to 49 lbs
Perform frequent bending stretching and reaching motions
Travel to various locations across the United States during summer months (up to 80%)
- Currently enrolled in a bachelors degree program with all requirements anticipated to be completed between December 2027 and August 2028.
- Currently reside within 50 miles of the position location listed in this job posting
- Available to work part-time (20 hours/week) during Spring 2027 semester (February 2027 May/June 2027) from our Bellevue WA office
- Available to transition to full-time (40 hours/week) for a 12-week period during Summer 2027 (May/June 2027 July/August 2027)
- Able to travel up to 80% to project sites and corporate offices across the United States during summer months
- Are 18 years of age or older
- Coursework or exposure in project management operations management supply chain or engineering
- Experience in a highly analytical results-oriented environment with cross-functional interactions
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel at an advanced level including pivot tables macros index/match and vlookup
- Experience in Microsoft Office products: Excel Project and Outlook
- Knowledge of Lean principles and DMAIC methodology
- Experience coordinating across multiple teams or stakeholders
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
