Job Summary
Position Summary
Electric Vehicle (EV) Start Up Technician requires a blend of high-voltage safety expertise advanced diagnostic abilities and software proficiency alongside foundational mechanical skills. Critical competencies include understanding battery management systems (BMS) electric motor diagnostics and utilizing OEM-specific scan tools for troubleshooting as well as handling heavy vehicle maintenance.
Position Responsibilities
- Initial power up of trucks
- Troubleshooting high and low voltage systems
- Establishing and setting programming parameters
- Ensure the implementation of quality and safety procedures
- Identify and correct defects in product or workmanship
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
Position Qualifications
- Ability to maintain a clean and safe work area;
- Strong mechanical aptitude;
- Strong problem-solving skills;
- Ability to manage time to meet regular deadlines;
- Ability to adhere to and develop best safety processes;
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings;
- Previous experience with hand/power tools;
- Detail oriented with good focus; and
- Dependable reliable and flexible.
Ideal Candidates Will Also Have
- Previous hydraulics and/or pneumatics experience is a plus.
- Safety Training: Specialized training for handling hazardous high-voltage components (e.g. NFPA 70E).
- Education: Associate degree or vocational training in electronics.
Core Technical Skills
- High-Voltage Safety: Strict adherence to safety protocols including using personal protective equipment (PPE) isolating high-voltage systems and testing for voltage.
- Electrical Systems Diagnosis: Proficiency with digital multimeters to diagnose electrical faults wiring issues and soldering components.
- Battery Technology & Management: Knowledge of battery charging cycles health checks and maintenance.
- Software & Diagnostics:Experience navigating vehicle software performing firmware updates and using OEM diagnostic tools.
- EV Powertrain Knowledge: Understanding electric motors inverters and power electronics.
- Wire Harnessing: Ability to build terminate and test high/low voltage cable harnesses.
Mechanical & General Skills
- Mechanical Proficiency:Strong foundational skills in suspension braking systems (including regenerative braking) steering and handling as EVs are often heavier.
- Troubleshooting:Strong analytical and logical problem-solving skills for complex modern vehicles.
- Documentation:Ability to document findings and communicate technical issues clearly.
