Staff Systems Design Engineer (Electrical)

The Emerson Test & Measurement/National Instruments (NI) Transportation Business Unit (TBU) Customer Centric Solutions (CCS) Team is seeking to hire a Staff Systems Design Engineer (Electrical) to work on custom solution projects. The primary responsibilities of this position are to work with NI engineering teams customers sales personnel partners and contract manufacturers to define design document deploy and sustain NI systems tailored to meet specific customer requirements for turnkey engineering solutions. The ideal candidate has experience and knowledge in electrical and electronic design and configuration of systems as well as familiarity with NI hardware and software products.

In this Role Your Responsibilities Will Be:

This is a multi-functional role dealing with diverse engineering needs including the ability to gather requirements generate specification documents and interface with integration partners contract manufacturers and internal personnel to design deploy and sustain custom solutions worldwide. This is a role within NI requiring daily interaction with customers partners NI Sales Teams and Engineering Teams. The role will include:

• Interacting with a wide variety of NI customersNI staff external partners and suppliers in support of designing implementing and sustaining of custom solutions

• Specifying and defining system configurations and electrical/electronic designs as part of turn-key systems and solution including parts and component selection

• Defining electrical interfaces within a system and designing related custom components and cables

• Prototyping testing and deploying turnkey automated solutionsin the Automotive industry

• Traveling as needed (possibly up to 25%) domestically and abroad in support of project objectives

This position is intended to grow into a project technical leadership position including the following responsibilities:

• Defining and implementing project plans managing milestones and holding reviews to ensure systems meet requirements and readiness for deployment

• Directing support personnel managing project technical deliverables guiding technical decisions and driving field found issues to resolution

• Generating requirements documents statements of work and Bills of Materials

• Work effectively in a diverse multi-cultural group development environment

For This Role You Will Need:

• B. S. Degree in Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering Mechatronics or Electronics Engineering Technology
• Minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience in a Hardware Systems Design Electrical Engineering or Test Engineering Design Role
• Understanding of electrical engineering electronics & computer architectures
• Familiarity with high-level programming languages (LabVIEW TestStand C/C/C#)
• Demonstratedunderstanding of the following concepts and principles:
  • Appropriate selection of instrumentation and equipmentto meet system requirements
  • Understanding of schematics wiring diagrams and signal routing
  • Measurement methodologies and sources of measurement error
• Integration of hardware and software
• Bill of Materials creation and review
• Familiarity with CAD and electrical/electronic design tools

Preferred Qualifications that Set You Apart:

• Hands on use of schematic capture tools and PCB design tools
• Knowledge in component supplier selection
• Hands on use of NI Hardware Platforms and Instruments
• SolidWorks Electrical with 3D plugin
• Experience working with contract manufacturers and internal Manufacturing groups
