Job Description:

Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by being responsible for maintaining timely and accurate balance sheet and general ledger accounts.

Hybrid work schedule may be authorized for this position.

Essential Functions

  1. Verifies records and posts a variety of financial transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and University policy.
  2. Compiles interprets and analyzes financial data often complex in structure and generates related schedules and reports.
  3. Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying allocating posting and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
  4. Reviews all credit card transactions for accuracy and is final approval
  5. Maintains all electronic uploads into the general ledger that is received from throughout campus.
  6. Collects W-9 or W-8 for new vendors verifying & managing set up. Including SSN or TIN with the IRS verification.
  7. Receives verifies & processes ACH information for vendors.
  8. Updates accounting related systems to improve operating efficiency and timeliness
  9. Assists in audits and prepare supporting work papers
  10. Maintains and updates fixed asset records
  11. Allocates prepaid expenses.
  12. Provides assistance and support to Controller Assistant Controller and other Finance team members on special projects as needed.
  13. Responsible for a number of bank reconciliations.

  1. Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or private information.
  2. Communicates with employees students and others in a respectful and clear manner.
  3. Serves on University committees councils workgroups or other designated bodies as assigned.
  4. Achieves maintains proficiency in and utilizes computers telephones and other job-related equipment including related systems and software.
  5. Speaks reads and writes in English.
  6. Communicates by telephone email letter in person or other means or device.
  7. Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in accounting business finance or related field
  • CPA or CMA track Preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word Excel SharePoint Teams and Outlook). Experience with Banner or similar integrated software experience desired.
  • Able to sit squat reach push pull and manipulate related equipment; lift 15 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus
  • Work some evening or weekend hours

Environmental Conditions

  • Indoor work at a computer workstation
  • Low level of exposure to noise dust fumes vibrations and temperature changes.
