Role Overview: As a member of our High Voltage (HV) Design team you will lead the development of next-generation high voltage power electronics that directly impact vehicle charging performance efficiency cost reliability and customer experience across future Lucid vehicle platforms. You will investigate electro-mechanical challenges and implement innovative solutions. You will drive every stage of the process from concept to production and collaborate with cross-functional teams to create solutions that bolster Lucids engineering dominance in the EV world. Responsibilities:
- Own The Design: Lead the mechanical architecture packaging integration and validation of core power electronics systems including onboard chargers DC-DC converters and HV junction boxes.
- Managing every aspect of design engineering from concept to production and beyond.
- Develop system-level solutions that balance electrical performance mechanical robustness manufacturability cost serviceability and customer experience.
- Lead supplier technical reviews DFMEA reviews tooling reviews validation alignment and production launch activities.
- Prototype & Test: Design build and test your prototypes
- Define and support executing environmental vibration thermal shock temperature cycling ingress protection durability and mechanical qualification testing
- Drive design changes based on test results and real-world feedback.
- Innovate & Optimize: Continuously optimize designs for cost and performance without sacrificing safety or reliability.
- Collaborate: Work closely with electrical engineers quality assurance manufacturing and other cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Mentor: Provide technical guidance to junior engineers lead internal design reviews and drive engineering decisions through analysis testing and first-principles reasoning.
- Continuously Learn: Embrace new challenges and expand your engineering skills in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
Qualifications:
- Ideally 3-6 years of relevant work experience but open to all levels of experience if paired with strong technical proficiency
- Rock-solid Mechanical Engineering fundamentals and a flair for creative problem-solving
- Experience packaging complex electromechanical assemblies with consideration for thermal structural electrical isolation and manufacturability requirements.
- Experience developing liquid-cooled power electronics assemblies including cold plates thermal interfaces heat spreaders and coolant sealing systems
- Strong understanding of high-voltage product design considerations including insulation systems creepage and clearance grounding shielding and HV safety requirements.
- Strong 3D CAD skills proficient with CATIA or similar software
- Strong knowledge of GD&T and Creepage & Clearance principles
- Proven Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) experience across injection molded plastics sheet metal die castings busbars gaskets adhesives and PCBA-integrated assemblies.
- Experience with Root Cause Analysis methods such as 8D
Preferred:
- Experience with automotive engineering and product validation (environmental testing shock/drop etc)
- Experience designing high-voltage power electronic products such as onboard chargers DC-DC converters inverters HV junction boxes battery disconnect units or similar electromechanical systems.
- Experience with FEA tools (Ansys or similar software) for structural and thermal analysis.
- Experience supporting APQP PPAP DFMEA and production launch activities.
- Experience working directly with automotive suppliers and contract manufacturers.
Education:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
