Primary Job Function:

The Speech-Language Pathologist provides comprehensive speech-language services to students with disabilities attending the Bert Goens Learning Center/Maple Creek Educational Center and assigned local district. Responsibilities include conducting evaluations participating in multidisciplinary teams developing and implementing individualized intervention plans and providing direct and consultative services that support students communication educational access functional independence and post-secondary success. The Speech-Language Pathologist collaborates with educators families and related service providers to ensure high-quality evidence-based services in compliance with federal and state special education regulations.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited college or university.

Certifications/Licensure:

  • Valid Michigan Speech-Language Pathologist License required.
  • Michigan Department of Education School Speech-Language Pathologist Approval (or eligibility if applicable).
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred.
  • Valid Michigan drivers license with the ability to travel between assigned buildings.

Experience:

  • Previous experience providing speech-language services in a school setting preferred.
  • Experience working with students with moderate to severe cognitive impairments autism spectrum disorder multiple disabilities and complex communication needs preferred.
  • Experience implementing Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems preferred.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of IDEA MARSE Section 504 and Michigan special education procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based assessment and intervention practices.
  • Ability to administer interpret and communicate formal and informal speech-language evaluations.
  • Knowledge and experience with AAC assessment implementation and staff training.
  • Ability to develop functional communication systems that promote independence across school environments.
  • Excellent collaboration and consultation skills when working with multidisciplinary teams and families.
  • Strong written verbal organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage a split caseload across center-based and local district programs.
  • Proficiency with electronic IEP systems progress monitoring data collection and educational technology.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Conduct speech-language evaluations screenings and reevaluations to determine eligibility and educational needs.
  • Participate as an active member of multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Provide direct consultative and collaborative speech-language services in accordance with student IEPs.
  • Deliver services to students attending the Bert Goens Learning Center and assigned local district schools.
  • Assess implement and support Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems and other assistive technology as appropriate.
  • Monitor student progress maintain data and complete required documentation progress reports and Medicaid billing (when applicable) within established timelines.
  • Collaborate with families educators related service providers and community agencies to support student communication and educational success.
  • Provide consultation and training to staff regarding communication strategies accommodations and evidence-based practices.
  • Ensure compliance with IDEA MARSE district policies and professional ethical standards while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate the VBISD Guiding Principles of Respect Integrity Compassion and Excellence participate in professional learning and perform additional duties as assigned by the Special Education Supervisor.
  • Valid drivers license required.

Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
