Job Description:

The Mechanical Engineer will design and develop space-based optomechanical systems and/or mechanical support equipment with interfaces to precision composite structures for spacecraft payloads.

Essential Functions:

• Responsible for completing optomechanical performance manufacturing and reliability assessments mechanical assembly definitions and technical specifications with supporting trade studies.
• Documentation of recommendations for presentation review and approval.
• Develop design concepts
• Support drawing creation assign and evaluate tolerances and drive drawing releases.
• Participate in cross-functional teams of engineers and designers to accomplish assignments.
• Investigate solutions to product or process problems.
• Oversight of suppliers including technical oversight and mechanical ICD/specification development
• Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance
  
  
  

Qualifications:

• Bachelors Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related lieu of a degree minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
• 1 years experience with CAD design
• 1 years experience with finite element analysis

Preferred Additional Skills:

• Secret clearance or higher preferred
• CAD experience especially PTC Creo
• Experience in an aerospace and/or optics environment
• Understanding of space-based optical system design
• Experience with opto-mechanical electro-mechanical design tooling/fixture design
• Experience with the ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing standard
• Strong analytical skills with emphasis on using and/or directing finite element analysis (FEA) desired especially FEMAP with knowledge of hand calculations

In compliance with pay transparency requirements the salary range for this role in New York state is $76500 $142500 . This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
