Job Summary
The Special Education Teacher-Specials will provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The position plans and implements standards-aligned evidence-based instruction based on individual student needs and goals. The Special Education Teacher-Specials collects and analyzes student data to monitor progress and inform instruction; develops and implements IEPs; and collaborates with families school districts related service providers and other educational professionals to support student growth and educational outcomes. The position creates a safe supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student independence engagement and participation in school and community settings. Instruction may be provided in classroom community home virtual or other educational environments based on program and student needs. This position is not eligible for remote work telecommuting or off-site work arrangements.
This position is dependent on program needs. If there is no need for a Related Arts/Specials teacher the individual will be assigned to a classroom special education teacher position.
Primary duties and responsibilities an employee must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation to successfully fulfill the requirements of a position.
- Provide direct instruction in Bucks IU related classes (specials) including by not limited to art music health and/or physical education.
- Regular attendance and reliable on-site presence.
- Follow all applicable state and federal special education requirements including Chapter 14 and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) as well as applicable Pennsylvania Department of Education guidance and Bureau of Special Education Basic Education Circulars.
- Review procedural safeguards and summarize them for families a minimum of one time per year.
- Complete evaluations (ERs) and re-evaluations (RRs) including all required components and input from team members and families.
- Develop write and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with student needs baseline data and applicable state and federal requirements.
- Convene all required meetings related to evaluations and IEPs.
Serves as team leader for all IEP team members ensuring all legal mandates are met and IEPs are implemented. As the lead communicator the Teacher will ensure all other service providers and team members including the parent are updated and informed of student progress and needs.
This position requires regular onsite presence and includes a combination of sedentary and active physical duties. Employeesare regularly required tosit communicate effectively use hands for fine motor tasks and move throughout the work environment. Frequent activities may include walking standing reaching bending kneeling crouching and positioning at student level for extended periods of time. Depending on assignment and student needs employees may alsobe requiredtoassistwith transitions mobility support and instructional or daily living activities.
The employee must be able to lift up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 25 pounds assignments may requireassistingstudents with mobility or physical support needs that exceed 25 pounds withappropriate trainingand support providedin accordance withprogram expectations and safety procedures.
This position requires active supervision of students across various educational settings and the ability to respond appropriately and efficiently tostudents classroom or safety needs. Responsibilities may include implementing approved crisis intervention techniques supporting students with diverse educational behavioral communication and personal care needs andmaintaininga safe and supportive learning environment. Employees may work in environments with elevated noise levels and varying behavioral or emotional support needs.
Specific vision abilitiesrequiredfor this position include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Employees must also be able to hear and interpret sounds within the environment including student communication alarms and other potential safety concerns.
Regular attendance dependable onsite presence and the ability to perform the essential functions of the position arerequired.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the role.
This is a full-time 193-day calendar position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Hours may vary based on district assignments program needs meetingstraining or organizational priorities. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel is required for this position and may include travel to Bucks IU locations client sites constituent school districts community agencies professional conferences trainings state and regional meetings and other program-related activities. Travel requirements vary based on operational and program needs.

- Bachelors Degree required.
- PA Special Education Certification required.
- Masters Degree beneficial.
- Ability to communicate effectively across a variety of team members including parents and across a variety of mediums including oral written and virtual.
- Proficiency with in-home and online delivery of education and instructional materials.
Citizenship or work authorization to work in the United States required.
