As a Software Engineer Payments youll become the foundational engineer responsible for designing and building the companys next-generation payments billing and pricing platform while working directly with engineering leadership on mission-critical financial infrastructure.

What Youll Do
- Architect and build the companys core payments and billing platform
- Design scalable pricing engines supporting SaaS usage-based and hybrid pricing models
- Build production-grade integrations with Stripe Shopify and payment providers
- Design reliable event-driven backend systems supporting payment processing
- Build usage metering pipelines tied to production product events
- Design reconciliation systems ensuring billing accuracy and financial transparency
- Build internal ledger audit and billing validation infrastructure
- Design APIs and backend services powering payment workflows
- Partner closely with Finance Product and Operations teams to improve billing processes
- Build scalable backend infrastructure supporting subscriptions invoices refunds disputes and payment lifecycle management
- Own payment platform initiatives from architecture through production deployment
- Improve reliability scalability and operational excellence across financial systems
Ideal Candidate Background
Experience Requirements
- 36 years of backend software engineering experience
- At least 23 years building production payments billing or pricing systems
- Experience owning payment infrastructure end-to-end
- Experience building customer-facing financial systems used in production
- Experience working at high-growth startups or technically sophisticated software companies
- Experience designing scalable backend systems supporting financial workflows
- Demonstrated ownership of production billing platforms
- Startup experience strongly preferred
- Business-minded engineering approach with strong product ownership
Technical Requirements
- Strong backend engineering fundamentals
- Hands-on experience integrating Stripe APIs in production
- Experience working with Shopify APIs or similar commerce platforms
- Strong SQL and relational database experience
- Experience building event-driven backend systems
- Strong understanding of idempotency retries and distributed event processing
- Experience building usage-based subscription or token-based billing systems
- Experience designing payment APIs and backend platform services
- Strong debugging and production systems troubleshooting skills
- Experience with Python TypeScript Django or similar backend technologies preferred
Education
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Software Engineering or related technical field preferred
- Strong academic background from a Top-30 Computer Science program preferred
- Academic pedigree becomes less important for candidates with 5 years of exceptional industry experience
