The Opportunity
As a Software Developer on the Member Data Services Modernization team you will join a high-performing engineering team responsible for building and modernizing services that support critical member/customer data platforms. This role is focused on designing and developing scalable secure APIs and event-driven applications that enable modern digital experience and enterprise integration. Youll work in a highly collaborative Agile environment where the teams operate in sprints partner closely with product and business stakeholders and continuously deliver innovative solutions. We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio TX or Phoenix AZ. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
What youll do:
Design develop code and test complex technical solutions.
Investigate and resolve complex application and system technical problems and production issues through troubleshooting techniques.
Continually improve operations by conducting complex systems analysis and recommending changes in policies and procedures.
Prepare and install complex solutions by determining and designing system specifications standards and programming.
Follow the software development lifecycle.
Participate in design reviews and learns key system design principles.
Mentor junior engineers and may begin mentoring peer engineers; Review teammates code.
Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified measured monitored and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
Bachelors degree; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience; and
4 years of professional software development experience using Java
3 years of experience developing REST-based services with a strong emphasis on API development.
Experience building APIs using Spring Boot.
Experience developing applications using event-driven frameworks and messaging frameworks such as Kafka.
Experience implementing container-based APIs using OpenShift Docker or Kubernetes.
Experience working on Agile teams that deliver software in sprint-based development cycles.
What sets you apart:
Financial services insurance banking or other highly regulated industry experience.
Experience with cloud-native application development and modernization initiatives.
Experience mentoring junior developers.
Experience with JavaScript and modern front-end development concepts.
US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner
Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $93770 - $179240.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
