Social Services Examiner**

Washington County Department of Social Services is seeking applications for Social Services Examiner**.This position involves responsibility for determining financial eligibility for the various programs administered by the local social services district and/or recommending amounts of assistance in accordance with established policies and procedures as well as for investigating the financial status of individuals to provide for the support of others. Work includes contacting respondents who become delinquent in making support payments and enforcing support orders. The work involves the review and evaluation of applications as well as direct interviews with applicants. Some leeway is permitted for the use of independent judgement in planning and carrying out the details of the work according to prescribed rules and procedures. May perform other duties as required.

** The NYS Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide (HELPS) Program temporarily removes the civil service exam requirement for specific titles across State and Local agencies. To be eligible for jobs in the NYS HELPS program candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the position and other conditions of employment. More information may be provided if you indicate interest in the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A) Completion of two years (60 semester hours) of study in a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university; OR

(B) Graduation from high school or possession of a GED or high school equivalency diploma and two years of experience examining investigating or evaluating claims for assistance financial support veterans or unemployment benefits insurance or similar program operating under established criteria for eligibility. Time in a volunteer role/position will count as experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:Possession of a valid New York State Drivers License.

RATE OF PAY: $22.90/hour plus benefits
