Purpose:
Service Technician is a skilled mid-level service professional responsible for independently performing diagnostics preventive maintenance and repairs across multiple heavy duty truck systems while supporting shop efficiency safety quality and customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs diagnostics preventive maintenance and repairs on multiple vehicle systems including engines drive-train brakes suspension steering electrical and after-treatment systems consistent with assigned skill level.
- Uses OEM software diagnostic tools and shop equipment to identify failures complete repairs accurately and verify proper operation.
- Accurately records labor inspections parts usage repair activity and recommendations in company systems and on repair orders.
- Works with the Shop Foreman or Service Manager to prioritize work maintain productivity and communicate repair status updates.
- Supports quality workmanship by following manufacturer procedures completing repairs correctly the first time possible and identifying additional repair needs.
- Assists junior technicians with routine troubleshooting and repair procedures when needed and shares technical knowledge in a professional manner.
- Maintains a clean orderly and safe work area and complies with all company policies safety procedures and personal protective equipment requirements.
- Performs road tests and final checks as appropriate to confirm repairs are complete and equipment is safe to return to service.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required.
- Ability to provide and maintain a complete set of tools necessary to perform assigned duties.
- Basic computer proficiency including the ability to use email work order systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose and repair multiple truck systems with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated reliability punctuality professionalism and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Forklift Training Certification required or ability to obtain certification within a time-frame established by the Company if applicable.
- Valid drivers license required; commercial drivers license (CDL preferred).
- Working knowledge of OEM diagnostic software shop equipment and computerized service systems.
Education and/or Experience:
Vocational school is a benefit but not required. Manufacturer training and/or technical school plus solid professional diesel technician experience typically 3-5 years with developing diagnostic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills are preferred.
- Allison and Eaton transmission experience (preferred)
- Cummins engine experience (preferred)
- International Truck diagnostic and repair experience (preferred but we provide).

- Technical Aptitude Ability to diagnose and repair multiple systems using manufacturer information software and diagnostic equipment.
- Time Management Managing time efficiently to meet productivity and quality expectations.
Certificates Licenses and/or Registrations:
- CDL Class A or B (preferred)
- Forklift Training Certification (preferred but we offer)
- ASE Certifications (preferred)
- International Certification (preferred but we offer)
Pay Structure
- Commission Technician Total hours billed
- Hourly Technician Total hours worked

Work Environment:
This position requires work in a variety of environments which may include outdoor settings in all weather conditions a service shop a parts warehouse and an office environment. The shop environment may involve exposure to noise dust grease smoke fumes gases and potentially hazardous chemicals as well as regular proximity to moving mechanical parts including medium- and heavy-duty diesel and gasoline engines.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Frequently required to stand walk bend kneel crouch and reach. Ability to lift carry push and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Ability to use hand tools power tools diagnostic equipment and computers. Visual acuity and manual dexterity are sufficient to perform detailed mechanical work safely.
