Senior Test Facility Electrical Engineer – Schenectady Technology Lab

GE Vernovas Component & Development Test Schenectady Technology Lab is seeking a Senior Facility Electrical Engineer to lead and advance the electrical infrastructure supporting our world-class test laboratory. This role requires deep expertise across MV and LV systems with a focus on electrical generation protection and medium-voltage distribution equipment. The successful candidate will bring extensive experience from large-scale industrial facilities and capital projects ensuring safe reliable and innovative electrical solutions.

Responsible for the Schenectady Technology Labs (STL) electrical infrastructure spanning from 15 kV feeds down to 120 V and DC control systems. This includes transformers switchgears MCCs distribution panels UPS/DC systems and specialized test equipment.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Safety Leadership: Champion electrical safety practices including LOTO procedures NFPA 70E compliance and arc flash mitigation strategies.
• Design & Engineering: Lead facility electrical system design commissioning operations and troubleshooting across MV/LV systems.
• Project Leadership: Provide primary technical direction for facility-based projects coordinating with GE Vernova teams EPCs and vendor partners.
• Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with Facility & System Readiness team Lab leadership lead test engineers and site senior electrical engineer to integrate electrical systems into broader facility designs.
• Vendor & Package Management: Manage electrical equipment packages end-to-end including RFQs bid evaluations vendor drawing reviews FATs and commissioning.
• Technical Documentation: Develop detailed electrical specifications load lists one-line/three-line diagrams area classifications and technical procedures. This includes maintaining and updating legacy facility drawings/redlines.
• System Studies: Perform advanced electrical studies (load flow short circuit relay coordination motor starting arc flash) using ETAP SKM or similar tools.
• Global Standards Compliance: Apply NEC IEC IEEE NFPA API OSHA and other international standards to facility designs.
• Mentorship: Act as a senior technical resource guiding junior engineers contractors technicians and hourly employees.
• Communication: Prepare clear technical reports and presentations for internal stakeholders and external customers. Actively participate in team and project meetings to clearly provide professional insights safety requirements and technical expertise.
• Work site: This role is 100% onsite at the Schenectady Technology Lab in Schenectady NY. It also involves occasional travel (<15% annually).

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution with 10 years of professional experience in electrical engineering with at least 5 years in facility or industrial power systems OR High School diploma with 15 years experience.
• Proven track record in electrical construction inspection and troubleshooting during installation and commissioning.
• Hands-on experience with MV/LV systems including transformers switchgears MCCs UPS/DC systems generators VFDs and protection relays.
• Advanced proficiency in electrical system modeling software (ETAP SKM EasyPower).
• Must be authorized to work in the US on a full time basis. We will not sponsor individuals for work visas now or in the future for this position vacancy.

Desired Characteristics

• 15 years of experience in electrical system design FEED and detailed engineering for large-scale facilities (oil & gas petrochemical hydrogen refining EPC).
• Demonstrated leadership in managing vendor packages electrical buildings and power distribution centers.
• Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD and EasyPower programs
• Strong grounding cable sizing breaker coordination and electrical room layout expertise.
• Experience with power generation facilities and transmission/distribution systems.
• Working knowledge of global electrical codes and standards (NEC CEC IEC IEEE NFPA API ABS OSHA).
• Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize multiple projects.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills with ability to convey complex technical information clearly.
• Understanding of electric grid operations and electrical control systems.

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position the pay range for this position is between $113200.00 and $188800.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110% 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidates experience education and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
