Description

Join a hands-on engineering team supporting the stand-up and operation of an operations this role you will own core compute storage directory services virtualization and enterprise monitoring capabilities. During the build phase you will help stand up servers and storage bring up directory services and virtualization across separate networks install and tune the monitoring platform integrate SNMP and syslog collection and design the dashboards used by the operations team. Responsibilities include sustainment patching hardening monitoring and tooling improvements incident response and support to geographically dispersed client sites. This is a hands-on Tier III role that combines systems engineering infrastructure monitoring security compliance troubleshooting and technical leadership.

Key Responsibilities:
Systems Administration
  • Administer Windows Server and Linux systems across separate networks.

  • Manage directory services group policy and authentication infrastructure.

  • Administer virtualization and hypervisor infrastructure including capacity and resource management.

  • Maintain access control by creating and managing user accounts and troubleshooting login and access issues.

  • Manage server and storage capacity backup and restoration.

  • Apply patches and configuration changes through established change-management processes.

Monitoring & Tools Engineering
  • Install configure and tune the enterprise monitoring platform.

  • Build and maintain SNMP polling syslog collection trap handling and alert thresholds.

  • Design and maintain dashboards and views used for continuous operational monitoring.

  • Integrate monitoring with the ticketing platform so alerts generate actionable tickets.

  • Continuously tune alerting to reduce noise and improve signal quality.

Security Engineering & Compliance
  • Apply and maintain hardening baselines.

  • Support Risk Management Framework (RMF) artifacts control documentation and audit evidence collection.

  • Support vulnerability scanning remediation tracking and patch-compliance reporting.

  • Maintain system security documentation and configuration baselines.

Incident Response & Escalation
  • Serve as a Tier III escalation point for systems storage and monitoring incidents.

  • Perform root-cause analysis and drive corrective actions through closure.

  • Monitor server activity and provide advanced technical support.

  • Respond to technical issues after hours and participate in the on-call rotation.

Field & Deployed Support
  • Install and rack equipment and connect required cabling.

  • Perform physical setup and configuration of desktop hardware software and peripherals.

  • Build workstations in accordance with established procedures.

  • Deploy to geographically dispersed client facilities for hardware replacement systems integration and validation testing.

  • Provide technical direction and training to more junior engineers.

Required Qualifications:
  • Degree in Computer Science Computer Engineering Systems Engineering Information Technology or a related field; candidates without a degree may qualify with 810 years of related experience on programs of similar size scope and complexity.

  • 8 years of engineering experience supporting technical programs with the majority in enterprise systems administration or infrastructure monitoring.

  • Hands-on enterprise Windows Server administration such as Windows Server 2022/2025 including AD DS Group Policy DNS/DHCP PKI PowerShell and troubleshooting.

  • Experience with Linux server administration.

  • Virtualization and hypervisor administration experience.

  • Hands-on experience with at least one enterprise monitoring platform such as SolarWinds Splunk PRTG Datadog or Elastic.

  • Working knowledge of SNMP and syslog collection and alerting.

  • Strong TCP/IP troubleshooting: IPv4/IPv6 subnetting VLAN/802.1Q LACP DNS DHCP NTP routing/switching ACL/firewall dependencies and MTU.

  • Server storage network appliance console and workstation installation/troubleshooting including out-of-band management such as iDRAC iLO XClarity Redfish-based tools or equivalent.

  • Working knowledge of CAT 5/CAT 6 cabling and connectors.

  • Experience with a ticketing platform Visio and Microsoft Office.

  • Physical capability to lift and mount equipment and work under raised floors.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Microsoft certification at the MCSE or Azure Administrator level; RHCSA/RHCE; or VMware VCP.

  • Security CySA CISSP GSEC or GCIA certification.

  • Experience with NIST 800-53 CNSSI guidance RMF or DISA STIGs.

  • Scripting and automation with PowerShell Python or Ansible; experience with Git.

  • ServiceNow administration experience.

  • Cloud platform experience with AWS or Azure.

  • ITIL Foundations certification.

  • Experience standing up or operating a data center network operations center or similar facility.

Security & Access

This position may require facility access security clearance and privileged system access. Selected candidates must be able to obtain and maintain any client-sponsored clearance required for the role. This is a full-time onsite position supporting a staggered coverage model with an on-call rotation and travel within the continental United States.
