We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Structural Substation Engineer to join our team at K&A Power Group in Oakbrook IL or Pleasanton CA. In this role you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. Role Expectations:

• Lead and support structural design efforts for high-voltage electrical substations (typically 12kV500kV).
• Perform structural steel design including bus support structures equipment stands platforms and connection details.
• Develop concrete foundation designs for transformers breakers control buildings steel structures and other substation components.
• Conduct structural analysis using industry-standard software and methodologies.
• Prepare and review detailed design documents calculations drawings and specifications.
• Collaborate with electrical civil and project management teams to ensure design compliance constructability and project timelines.
• Support site evaluations structural assessments and modification recommendations for existing substations.
• Maintain adherence to applicable codes and standards (e.g. ASCE ACI AISC NESC IEEE).
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship when applicable.

What were looking for:

• Bachelors degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Masters preferred but not required).
• 5 years of structural engineering experience with a focus on substation design.
• Demonstrated experience with:
  • Structural steel design
  • Concrete/foundation design
  • Analysis software (e.g. PLS-CADD/POLE STAAD SAP2000 RISA or similar)
• Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (ASCE AISC ACI NESC).
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects.
• Professional Engineer (SE) licenseIllinois preferred (or ability to obtain via comity).
• Experience interacting with utility clients or EPC partners.
• Familiarity with seismic design requirements in California.
• Experience developing construction packages and IFC drawings.
• Prior involvement in renewable energy or grid modernization projects.
