Senior Software Engineer Location Technologies, Sensing & Connectivity

The Sensing and Connectivity Location team creates the software and infrastructure that powers positioning on Apple products. Through the integration of multiple on-device sensor suites broad network provisioned aiding and state of the art estimation and fusion algorithms our team enables precise workouts pinpoint mapping and accurate navigation wherever the user desires to go.

In this role you will advance the accuracy and availability of Apples on-device location services via curated network-delivered aiding data to close gaps in the devices knowledge of its environment and operating context.

nDefine and drive the development of network data services and develop the back-end algorithms that animate them. nBuild and maintain monitoring alerting and data-quality tooling for production services in partnership with other internal location technical relationships with external data vendors or qualification and commercialization of location-service features including integration of on-device sensor and telemetry data shipped to iPhone iPad and Apple

BS or MS in EE CS Aerospace Geomatics or equivalent plus 5 years of software or positioning software development skills: C/C for embedded Java for server-side and/or Python for data analysis and depth in at least one of the following plus working familiarity with the other two:nn 1. GNSS positioning concepts and ephemeris/orbit data.n 2. Cloud-based service design and operations (AWS GCP Azure or equivalent).n 3. Production monitoring alerting and data-quality

Working knowledge of RF or alternate location-sensing technologies beyond GNSS. nExperience developing or shipping software for embedded or consumer hardware with crowd-sourced sensor or telemetry data working directly with external vendors or partners on technical data-integration presenting technical findings or recommendations to management or non-technical leveraging GenAI and Agentic work flows to development and analysis passion for location technologies and a drive to continuously innovate in ways that make a real difference in peoples lives.
